AB(someone other than Bush)--what is wrong with you people?
Edited on Sun Jan-25-04 10:19 AM by jpgray
I can't believe that anyone on this board would deny the opposition to Bush their vote. Every single candidate will support the nominee. Kucinich will, Dean will, Kerry will, Edwards will, Lieberman will, Sharpton will, Clark will. Why do you suppose that is, and why do you disagree with them?

The irony is most of these threads are based on a false premise. The two who get it the most are Kerry and Dean.

People say Dean is too angry or unelectable--I've watched his town halls and the debates--he's in control and has a moderate enough platform to appeal to everyone. This guy has raised an incredible amount of money from the internet and from regular people. He has built up a quite a network of supporters and really energized leftist folks. He's one of the best candidates, and I hate to see anyone count him out.

People call Kerry the "corporatist candidate", which is truly mind-boggling since he has been endorsed by the LCV, and has a more liberal record than Ted Kennedy! This guy is the best candidate on the environment--and yet he is the most corporate? People justify their hatred of Kerry by having ridiculously high standards they apparently refuse to apply to their own candidates. Unless you're supporting Kucinich, I can't see how Kerry comes off worst in any comparison of records concerning corporate/environmental views.

Those are the two that suffer the most from AB(?), but EVERY major candidate is worthy of a vote. We have a paragon of leftist values from the House, one of the most liberal senators ever to run, a civil rights leader, an inspiring Horatio Alger story senator, a Rhodes Scholar general, and an exciting populist governor.

It's really depressing to me to see ANY manner of AB(?) unless it has a 'B' in there. If we can't get out the vote for Dean or Kerry, or any of the major candidates, we deserve Bush, and we deserve four more years of Republican-dominated government. That will cause more suffering to millions here, and millions abroad. My values match best with Kucinich. I would never vote for Dean, Kerry, Edwards or Clark if I were voting my values, but I'm not so selfish that I would rather punish Dems who supported (or are like) Bush than punish Bush himself. The guy needs to go--I am not at all willing to help him, however indirectly, get another term in office.

1. I agree with you 100%!
For once in my life, I am going to vote with extreme practicality (is that an oxymoron?)!

2. It is insane, to me.

I hold Dean's feet to the fire as much as anyone on his record, and have done so since before his popularity spike. He is LAST on my list...BUT...I would never sign on to the ABD horseshit.

Cut off your nose to spite your face? No way.

6. me too blm!
I can't say I like Dean, but I sure as hell will vote for him if I need to. I'm not going to let Bush have another 4 years to destroy the country. ABD and ABK is bullshit, pure and simple.

14. this Dean critic would vote for Dean in a heartbeat over Bush.

Wouldn't you have to be certifiably insane to let Bush get reselected?

3. If the Dem party selects a Dead rancid rotting dog
I'll vote for it before the shrub. And I won't abstain.
Abstinence may work to prevent aids but not fascism.

4. For all the talk of how much everyone dislikes bush.....
And I'm sure if you did a poll asking just what someone would be willing to sacrifice if it would mean that bush would be out of office I'm sure you would get any number of responses. Money......any number of personal effects or luxuires or modern amenities.

Yet for all their talk of how much they hate bush and want him out of office, there are still people who aren't willing to just suck it up and vote for someone who doesn't agree with them 100% of the time. Or who might not be politically pure in some way or another.

It's a bunch of horsesh*t as far as I'm concerned. In 2000 people could claim a bit of naivete for their abstained votes or their third party votes. At this point we all know what the stakes are and our votes need to be uniformly against bushco regardless of the minor differences we may have with the democratic nominee.

8. Great way to put it
It is nonsensical that people hate Bush so much, but that hatred stops short of voting for some of the best candidates we've ever had in a primary?

5. Texas Yellow Dog Dem here...
I'd vote for a sleeping, mangy, old yellow dog before I'd vote for Bush.

7. Yeah.
The alternative to voting Dem this year is keeping the Chimp in office. Don't waste your vote.

9. You're absolutely correct, and I doubt that many here would
throw their votes away out of spite. We are all heated up about our particular candidates, and have some negative feelings about others (which is why we don't support them in the primary). It would be insane though to think that ABB in the final analysis isn't, not just what we want, but what this country MUST HAVE to survive.

10. I don't understand it either
Personally, I think anyone who isn't ABB is just selfish to the nth degree.

We NEED to get rid of this guy. And anyone who wouldn't support the person most able of making that happen (ie, the eventual nominee) should probably be banned from this board. Or at the very least, be asked to leave if they can't contribute anything constructive.

What Would (your candidate here) Do?

Your candidate would vote for the nominee in November.

Period.
