David Broder on SS proposal by Sen 'DeepThroat' Bennett
I just finished reading WashPost's David Broder editorial on what my newspaper (NYTimes subsidiary) captioned 'Social Security debate in need of bipartisanship'.

Broder claims that "If they are responsible, Democrats will take Bennett at his word, come out of their defensive crouch, negotiate- and put Bush and the Republicans on the spot".

What a load of hogwash, and that's being charitable. Sen Robert F. Bennett has been a 'bait and switch' player since his Watergate salad-days ! We couldn't trust Bennett in 1974...why should he be trusted TODAY ?

"I have told Woodward everything I know about the Watergate case, except the Mullen Company's tie to the CIA."--Robert F. Bennett testifying before House Special Committee on Intelligence, July 2, 1974.

Robert Bennett was the head of Robert R. Mullen and Co., a CIA front headquartered in the very same building as the CIA's Domestic Operations Division."

Senator Harry Reid is absolutely correct in not falling for Sen Bennett's 'bait and switch' plan to lure Democrats into a bargaining session with the majority Republicans in both congressional houses. There's no point in letting them off the hook they're ALREADY on !

A note just received from someone who is out in the field and working very hard to stop the piratization of SS:

2. Dems need to keep their eye on the ball
The gop has one goal in this-----destroy SS, part of their overall plan to cancel the 20th century. Our plan should be Social security exactly the way it was conceived, no compromises.

3. David Broder sucks. He's blatantly shilling for Bush right now !
Social Security isn't really even in the trouble Broder says, if you look at the new book out The Plot Against Social Security by Michael Hiltzik

http://www.harpercollins.com/features/plot/

The REAL problem is health insurance, which will require a beefed-up Medicare program for EVERYONE, not just the elderly.

Broder should be apologizing to the public right now and/or submitting his resignation from WashPost. He has picked up the lying habit from covering the Bush administration for too long.
