Memo: Voting for Dean will not prevent the war in Iraq
It has already started.

Now, if you contend that he will bring the troops back faster than anyone else, then that would be a valid point. I honestly do not know who has claimed he would bring the troops home the fastest (Other than Kucinich, who has said he would bring them home immediately.)

1. But...But...
I thought a vote for Dean was a vote against the war.

Don't tell me it already started.

13. Why do you believe that?
Is there any difference between Dean's policies and the others wrt:Iraq that lead you to that conclusion, or was it the result of your generally preferring Dean?

4. Who contends otherwise?
You act like people seriously believe that when it's illogical, and simply physically impossible.

I think Dean would bring our troops back faster than others.

5. Really? Wow.
Here I was thinking otherwise. Guess I'll just have to drop my support for Dr. Dean then. Whose camp would you suggest I join now?

Seriously: Of course a vote for Dean won't prevent the Iraq war, but it will prevent further implementation of the PNAC agenda that led to the Iraq War. I am not so sure I could say the same of other candidates (Kerry and Clark included).

6. Actually, I'm voting for Dean for a balanced budget and health care
Making Success by Six a national program to reduce child neglect abuse and sexual abuse all over the country like it did in Vermont. Iraq really has no influence on why I support Dean.

12. Dean has not stated WHEN he will begin to ask congress for
A universal health program. Kerry has stated that it will be the first bill he sends to congress.

9. I am a Dean supporter
And I would like to thank you for enlightening me about the Iraq War. Seeing your point that the war has apparently already started I would like to retract my vote for Dean and change it to Kucinich.

17. Why do you believe that?
As far as I can tell, Dean has no experience in the int'l realm, so what has led you to think Dean will be better than the other candidates when it comes to bringing our troops home quickly?

11. If you note
Dena took a very opportunistic position after the war had started, but if you look at comments he made before the war, his position falls most closely to the actual actins taken by the Bush Administration:

Face the Nations 9/29/2002

DEAN: Sure, I think the Democrats have pushed him into that position and the Congress, and I think that's a good thing. And I think he is trying to do that. We still get these bellicose statements.

Look, it's very simple. Here's what we ought to have done. We should have gone to the U.N. Security Council. We should have asked for a resolution to allow the inspectors back in with no pre-conditions. And then we should have given them a deadline saying "If you don't do this, say, within 60 days, we will reserve our right as Americans to defend ourselves and we will go into Iraq."

Salon.com February 20, 2003

"As I've said about eight times today," he says, annoyed -- that Saddam must be disarmed, but with a multilateral force under the auspices of the United Nations. If the U.N. in the end chooses not to enforce its own resolutions, then the U.S. should give Saddam 30 to 60 days to disarm, and if he doesn't, unilateral action is a regrettable, but unavoidable, choice.

http://www.howardsmusings.com/2003/02/20/salon_on_the_campaign_trail_with_the_unbush.html

The full text of the Meet the Press Article has Dean stating he beleives their are WMD's and beleives Bush;s evidences.

There are dozens of report showing how Dean supported unilateral actions, accepted that Saddam's Regime was an imminent threat to the U.S., that he accepted the fact that Iraq had WMD's and so on.

He did all sorts of flip flops during the period before the war, only taking his much reported against the war stance after the invasion itself.

If you look at the conditions Dena states he would have required to go to war, they almost exactly match the excuese the Bush Adminstration gave for invading without U.N. support and for abandoning inspections.

18. There seem to be a lot of people who haven't gotten the memo.
At least here at DU, that is.

This memo seems to have been distributed far and wide in Iowa, however.

22. Amazing --
How far off base could you possibly get? I have to figure that you are one of Kerry's ugly minions, like the push pollers in Iowa. That's the only thing that make sense.

19. I'll vote for him since he has better judgement
And isn't afraid of taking and sticking to unpopular views when he thinks they are right. But thanks for shattering the illusion I had about Dean being able to turn back time.

23. Kucinich didn't say that
Kucinich said he would bring them home as soon as he could get UN troops to replace them. He claims he will bring the troops home within 90 days of U.N. approval--and how long that will take is anybody's guess. With the mess in Iraq as it is today, it could be years before the UN wants to go back in.
