Scotty and his horrible, terrible, no good, very bad day
Everyone's heard that Scott McClellan had a pretty bad day today in the press room. Here's a link to the page with the video link on it. The best stuff is in the first half; after that, it becomes a bit monotonous...

1. Until the reporters' laughter at the end, after Scotty leaves
That is a really good part too.

2. That is funny as hell
and Scott is as white as a Scot Tissue. He looks prepared to vomit. They're already arguing about who gets the jail cell on the corner.

9. Gregory
David Gregory did a great job!!! I loved it when he started to ask a question and Scott said something like 'you didn't let me finish' and Gregory said 'but you're not saying anything!'

I loved the way the reporters just would not let this go. Scott's excuse that it was due to an ongoing investigation just did not hold water since he's commented on it before. And the only reason why they're not talking about it now is because their guy is in some hot water and they have no way to defend themselves..........unless they try to lie their way out of it again!!!!

4. Scott knows his days as a credible reporter are over
You can't lie to your own occupation colleagues as he did. They were openly contemptuous of him.

I'm sure he will now start appearing on Faux/Bushco news as a regular.

5. Voting Rights Reathorization? WTF?
Edited on Tue Jul-12-05 01:01 AM by Tommymac
Very last question the Scottymander took:

Q Scott, voting rights reauthorization. I understand the President is for voting rights reauthorization, but he still wants to study portions of it. It sounds kind of contradictory. Could you explain what that means, as it's up for renewal?

MR. McCLELLAN: Sure. As you point out, it's up of reauthorization in 2006. The President does support reauthorization. That process is getting underway in Congress. And as it works its way through Congress, the White House will look at and consider any improvements to strengthen it. And that's -- that's really where it stands at this point.

Q Well, what does he think could strengthen it? What tweaks is he thinking of right now --

MR. McCLELLAN: Well, I think that's something we'll look at. There are suggestions that I'm sure people are going to make as we move forward, and we'll look at and consider those suggestions. The President also met with the Congressional Black Caucus and said he would take their views into account as we move forward, as well.

:wtf:

12. republican speak
did you ever notice how these people tell you as little as possible, while acting as if they've given you a complete answer?

It's because they don't want us to know what they're doing......whether it's about voting rights, Valerie Plame or any number of topics.

If we knew what they know, I'm sure there would be protests and riots on every street corner in the country!!!

16. Yeah, really.....
Imagine if Bush was given a truth serum and for only 30 minutes, had to answer every question thrown at him TRUTHFULLY.

Just 30 minutes of his time.. and he had zero ability to fib, lie, twist, or falsify =ANY= of the questions.

** sigh **

Well.. we can dream anyway...

7. C-SPAN
Just saw it all on C-SPAN. Hilarious! I think my favorite part was when David Gregory exclaimed to McClellan: "This is ridiculous!"

14. I just caught the last part of it,
...after Scottie was discussing North Korea. (I had already read the first part, so I didn't miss anything.) Gotta say it was enjoyable to watch him squirm. It seems like the journalists are finally starting to take these guys on ... maybe seeing their colleague Judith Miller go to jail put a scare into them. Plus, they probably don't like that they've been duped for the past five years. It's encouraging to see a flash of journalistic integrity here and there...David Gregory stands out. I hope he doesn't get fired.

On a slightly different subject, could somebody explain to me why Mr. Cooper has been freed from his super secret vow of confidentiality by Karl Rove, but Judith Miller has not been? Maybe I haven't been paying attention to the whole story. Was somebody else her confidential source, or is she afraid of something? Somebody please fill in this missing link for me.

17. on rove and cooper...
have you checked out this TPM story about that:
http://www.talkingpointsmemo.com/archives/week_2005_07_10.php#006047

Later, Mr. Waldman asked whether Time's disclosures and a blanket waiver form his source had signed were enough to allow him to testify. In an e-mail message on Tuesday night, Mr. Cooper said he believed the forms could have been coerced and thus worthless.
The only thing that would do, Mr. Cooper wrote, was a "certain, unambiguous waiver" from his source.

Around 7:30 on Wednesday morning, Mr. Cooper had said goodbye to his son, resigned to his fate. His lawyer, Mr. Sauber, called to alert him to a statement from Mr. Luskin in The Wall Street Journal.

"If Matt Cooper is going to jail to protect a source," Mr. Luskin told The Journal, "it's not Karl he's protecting."

That provided an opening, Mr. Cooper said. "I was not looking for a waiver," he said, "but on Wednesday morning my lawyer called and said, 'Look at The Wall Street Journal. I think we should take a shot.' And I said, 'Yes, it's an invitation.' "

In court shortly after 2, he told Judge Thomas F. Hogan of the Federal District Court in Washington that he had received "an express personal release from my source."

That statement surprised Mr. Luskin, Mr. Rove's lawyer. Mr. Luskin said he had only reaffirmed the blanket waiver, in response to a request from Mr. Fitzgerald.

"Karl was not afraid of what Cooper is going to say and is clearly trying to be fully candid with the prosecutor," Mr. Luskin said.

Did Luskin blow it for Rove?

19. Did Gannon/Guckert get back in the room? These questions are funny...
Q Scott, since President William Howard Taft became Chief Justice after his presidency, you would not rule out the President nominating former law school professor Bill Clinton to the Supreme Court, would you? And if you wouldn't, we can report that President Clinton is under consideration, can't we?

MR. McCLELLAN: Well, that's the first time I've heard that name suggested. I know there are a lot of names being suggested out there, and you know that I'm not going to get into speculating about any particular names.

Q One follow-up. Considering the widespread interest and the absolutely frantic Democrat reaction to Karl Rove's excellent speech to conservatives last month, does the President hope that Karl will give a lot more speeches?

MR. McCLELLAN: He continues to give speeches. He was traveling this weekend talking about the importance of strengthening Social Security. And he has continued to go out and give speeches.
