Gingrich smear on Joseph Wilson |
|
Why do I do this to myself? Once again, I happened to turn on nbc's Today show and who do I see, but the bastard himself, Newt Gingrich. He is in the midst of a tirade against Joe Wilson, stating that he lied about who sent him to Niger (wilson had first said it was Cheney), what information he received there and that he was part of John Kerry's team long before the leak every happened...
Okay, I understand that Wilson was a supporter of Kerry's during the elections, but, can someone explain to me the basis for any of the other accusations? Gingrich basically said that Wilson was a partisan liar and couldn't be trusted. Someone give me the details!!:wtf:

Well, if there wasn't a crime, then Fitzgerald wouldn't be investigating anymore would he?

Joe Wilson could be the biggest liar on the planet, but Joe Wilson is not the issue.
Blowing the cover of a CIA covert operative IS. Not to mention doing so as retribution for political gains.

10. Please don't concede 'lying' on Wilson... |
|
I realize that lying or not, the point is Rove blowing Plame's cover, but as far as I know, he never claimed that Cheney sent him. Rather, he claimed that the Office of the VP requested CIA to send someone, and CIA chose him, whether at Plame's suggestion, or on her commendation, it doesn't matter...
But to blithely accept RW talking point that he 'lied' seems unwise.

There's no way EVER I would believe ANYTHING ANY republican says about anything, much less Plamegate. I just wanted to know what the hell Gingrich was talking about.

6. In Wilsons NYT article and his book, to my knowledge he ALWAYS |
|
said that CIA sent him *at the request of the office of the VP*, which could be Libby or anyone else senior enough to request CIA input under authority of VP.
Which is clearly not the same thing as "Cheney sent him".
Even Bill "Lying-ass" O'Reilly was looking at Newt like he was full of shit when he did the dress rehearsal on GOP surrogate Fox News last night.

Joe Wilson actually gave money to Bush's campaign in 2000, but decided to not give anymore after they smeared McCain in South Carolina. Bush Sr. commended Joe Wilson for his service as an Ambassador in Iraq before and during the first Gulf War. Wilson did a press conference with a noose around his neck and dared Saddam to come for him. He was one of the very last Americans out of Baghdad because he oversaw the evacuation of everyone else. Joe Wilson is a tough SOB, who is more than a little pissed about these guys endangering his wife, and frankly, I would be too. Wimps like Gingrich and his ilk would never stick their neck out for anybody, let alone their own family.
They take little things that Wilson has said over the past two years, take them out of context and spin, spin, spin. He's said a few things out of anger, like the "Frog March" thing about Rove and all, but basically everything he has said is true. They nit pick at stuff to make him look bad, but Wilson, outside of his temperment over this, is clean as a whistle.

Abosolutely. I think what is being done the repugs are following those talking points that came out yesterday, ie. that Rove made the call to Matt Cooper in order to dissuade him from writing about what Wilson was accusing the Bush administration of (lying about uranium). This is Rove's story, and I guess repugs are trying to make it seem plausible (which of course, it isn't).

Edited on Wed Jul-13-05 10:56 AM by tmorelli415
so they've resorted to pulling out all of their big guns in the media manipulation game - Newt is the original engineer of the New Speak game
Remember the Republican game plan with Clinton? They wanted to get him under oath - the reason had nothing to do with Monica, but they just wanted him under oath no matter why or how so that they could spring it on him and hope he'd slip up.
We've got an investigation underway and increasingly they're being called to testify under oath on a matter that allows questioning that goes way beyond the Plame leak itself: forged documents, manipulated intel, lying to Congress, etc.
Deniable culpability unravels as more are questioned - attorneys never ask questions they don't already know the answers to...
Just as in the Clinton case, a grand jury can open up investigations into criminal activity not known prior to the inquiry but revealed through questioning. It is not the Plame case they are most afraid of.

What was he busy doing while he ranted and raved about Clinton's personal behavior in the White House? Hmmmmm...why did he leave Congress again? Hmmmm
If he's the most credible spinner the republican's got they're in deep doo doo!
