If you can spare $10 for Jim McDermott....he needs our help.

To my Supporters:

I am writing to you today because I need your help.

My First Amendment court battle against Newt Gingrich has dragged on for 8 long years and Tom Delay and the Republican leadership is determined to silence my voice of dissent. As a result I am facing a civil lawsuit that would require me to pay the other sides legal fees this will be as much as $1,000,000 dollars. That is one million dollars more than I have.

For the past 6 months I have spent many hours fundraising. This is valuable time that I could have spent on issues that are important to all of you like improving your health care and other pressing issues. Thankfully, I now have $161,000 in the bank, but clearly, I still have a long way to go.

I have been running for office for 35 years and I frequently dreamed of a broad based way to appeal for money from each and everyone of you - who really care about what is happening in our country. I believe it can be done and I have a plan.

If each one of you, the 200,000 people who voted for me in the last election gave $10 each, I would have $2 million in the bank. We can really do this and heres how:

Make a donation at my Web site: www.McDermottforCongress.com
Add 10 cents to your donation, so I will know my message reached you.

While this message is clearly about raising money for my immediate legal battle, a contribution from you could have an even more powerful effect. It makes a statement that you will not let the Republicans silence our strong individual and Democratic voices by dragging people like me through the court system. We can be a model for other politicians on how to effectively raise large amounts of the money from modest donations of middle and lower income people. Imagine if all politicians could raise the money for their campaigns without corporate donations?

Thank you for supporting me and my vision that small contributions can help bring down those politicians whose votes can be sold to the highest bidder. Together with your $10.10 we can meet our opponents head on.

P.S. Learn more about my court battle by going to: www.mcdermottforcongress.com/getthefacts.aspx

P.P.S. Whatever money I raise that I do not need will go to progressive candidates.

Here is his website with an thorough explanation of how he was taken to court and why. Please remember the GOP keeps going after our Democrats whenever they start to make a differnce. They threaten audits and worse, and they smear unmercifully.

http://www.mcdermottforcongress.com/CMS.aspx?Filename=getthefacts

Again, it had to do with the GOP and the ethics committee. Help him if you can.

Peace.

www.missionnotaccomplished.us - How ever long it takes, the day must come when tens of millions of caring individuals peacefully but persistently defy the dictator, deny the corporatists their cash flow, and halt the evil being done in Iraq and in all the other places the Bu$h neoconster regime is destroying civilization and the environment in the name of "America."

24. I found this article on McDermott
when I was looking for something about him going to Iraq before the bombing started(which I know he did)..

snip>>

"U.S. Rep. Jim McDermott, D-Seattle, said he voted against giving President George W. Bush the power to declare war on Iraq for two reasons: one is the constitutional right of the House of Representatives to declare war, not the president.

The second reason is that it breaks 200 years of foreign policy by giving the president the power to make “preventive” war, rather than “pre-emptive” war, he said"

And here's the Kicker..

“I am for disarming Saddam, but not taking leaders out. We did that in Iran and in the Congo. Just look at our record of how the U.S. has selected leaders, and after it’s all done, the real question is: will we be safer?”

More on McDermott..

This is one Democrat who I truly admire and respect. Money is tight for me right now because we are closing on a house and the fees are endless - but if I can spare it for any politician, I can spare it for him.

26. About standing up to the threats and lawsuits they use.
I was proud of Howard Dean when I watched the video of his speech at the NAACP. He tied the IRS audits to intimidating those who spoke out, and he mentioned Julian Bond by name.

When someone tries to make a difference they attack them. Anyone could be next.

McDermott's words:

"While this message is clearly about raising money for my immediate legal battle, a contribution from you could have an even more powerful effect.
