Poll question: Belly up to the table and predict the Senate vote on Roberts for SCOTUS
Edited on Thu Jul-21-05 09:45 AM by Bucky
Another thread is asking what people think will be the number of votes Robers will get in the Senate. Most people are predicting in the 60 to 70 range. I think that's way too low. It's early, but here's a chance to test just how reality based you are.

How many votes do you think Bob --oops, I mean "John" -- Roberts will get in the final Senate confirmation?

.

3. I take
Wait and see. The public has to get used to the idea of this man. And what he stands for. It's too soon to predict what Dems will do in my opinion.

6. In my defence, I was not implying that he'd go crashcart on us
But thanks. I like your optimism, but I really don't see Democrats rallying against this guy. There's still very much a "save your ammunition" mentality going on among Democrats--the more shots you take, the less shots you'll be able to take in the next fight. Instead the Republicans seem to regard partisanship as a form of calisthenics--the more you do the better shape you're in.

8. If you can't get at least half the caucus up front to oppose...
then you won't get most of those inclined to oppose actually voting no. Since there are at least five Dems assured to vote "Yes" on Roberts, there won't be any chance of breaking 40 "No" votes. That's when the rats start running. I don't see more than four or five die hards in solid Blue states voting against this nomination when it's all over with.

9. I'm predicting 80-89
- but I might be low. I'm not seeing any opposition that matters from any corner save a very few. The public and special interest groups really don't have a say in this at this point. They can express their opinions to their Senator and write the WH but - in reality - it won't change anything.

This man was investigated just 2 years ago for the DC court and he passed with flying colors so I doubt he's got any skeleton's we don't know about.

This is a Done Deal.
