Justice Department Probing Durbin, Rockefeller CIA Leak

The Justice Department has launched a criminal investigation into whether Democratic Senators Dick Durbin, Jay Rockefeller and Ron Wyden leaked details about a secret "black ops" CIA satellite program last December in a move that may have seriously compromised national security, former Deputy Undersecretary of Defense Jed Babbin said on Saturday.

"The CIA made a request to the Justice Department to investigate and possibly bring criminal charges against these three ," Babbin told WABC Radio host Monica Crowley. "My information is that investigation is ongoing."

Rockefeller is the vice chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee and Durbin is the No. 2-ranking Democrat in the Senate.

Media reports on the satellite leak last December indicated that the Bush administration was concerned about public comments by Durbin, Rockefeller and Wyden and that the CIA had requested a Justice Department probe.

"The formal request for a leaks investigation would target people who described sensitive details about a new generation of spy satellites to The Washington Post, which published a page-one story about the espionage program Saturday ," a Justice Department official told The Associated Press at the time.

But the same official told the AP that Justice "has not decided whether to investigate."

1. Well....it's what we know they do. They turn investigations into Repugs
back around to investigations of Democrats. It's the way they operate in true thuggery style. Everyone knows this and that's why they are so afraid. At some point we Dems better find a better way to deal with this because we haven't seen anything yet..given the importance Plame leak investigation is getting.

2. Wow!!!
They are trying to make a deal. Who would'a thought it. They are really desperate and grasping for straws. The problem is, that Durbin, Rockefeller and Wyden are probably more likely to pay for their indiscretions if such there were than Rove, et al. because who's to pardon them.

Remember how the U.S. and Russia used to trade spies. (Carre wrote about this.) Now we're trading security breachers. I feel sorry for Durbin, Rockefeller and Wyden. I wonder what the facts are on this.

5. Hmmmm, a rightwing blog that cites as its source, Newsmax
That's sorta like a UFOlogist citing as his source Weekly World News.

7. Really... why even drag the crap over here?
Do you see it on any of the major news sites? No.

Do you see it on the rightwing TRASH sites? Yes.

Unless it's a reliable source.. why on earth would anyone post Newsmax and their feeder blogs on here? :eyes:

8. And why would another poster claim "Yeah, I saw that"
then claim it was going to be messy?

Weirdness.

12. Except this: today's Republicans have close ties to the wingiest of nuts
You don't have to, nor should you, believe everything they say. Obviously a bullshit filter is needed. But taking the time to look at the words of dangerous people you disagree with can be very educational. A lack of familiarity with people who are out to get you can be quite foolish.

16. And when the rantings of tinfoil hatters are taken for truth?
This is as bad as taking some nutball story off Rense at face value.

Seriously.

9. it would be funny if it weren't so predictable
they always accuse their enemies of what they themselves are guilty of--the resulting talking point: "See they do it too! Therefore there is no crime!"

This defense is so pathetic. Do 2 wrongs make a right? I don't think so (if the dems are even guilty, which I doubt)

what sad, dirty-dealing losers the WH PR team is.

14. Trying the old tit for tat
It ain't gonna work. They're just spreading it around so wingnuts can feel outraged and stop thinking about what Rove and Cheney did. They don't have any facts on their side, so they're just slinging mud.
