Why is the Senate Intelligence Comm. planning to review Fitzgerald?
http://www.boston.com/news/politics/president/bush/articles/2005/07/25/congress_plans_to_scrutinize_plame_related_issues/

Here is the last paragraph from the article:

"Little (Roberts spokesperson) said the Senate committee would also review the probe of special prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald, who has been investigating the Plame case for nearly two years"

Got this link from Kos, who took the last paragraph as meaning that Roberts was going to investigate Fitzgerald. Why would a Repub be staring over the shoulder of a Repub. Could it be, as Kos suggest, because Fitz won't fly the GOP flag over the Stars and Stripes?

So we can't get Roberts to complete his DSM investigation as promised and as requested by Kerry and his merry band of signatories, but Roberts WILL investigate one of his own if that person isn't flying right re: the GOP.

Hmm.

3. Probably because Fitz is going to hand their asses to them.
These fuckers are pulling out all the stops. It'll get worse. Wait and see.

4. If they hand out "use immunity" or (worse) "transactional immunity" ...
... they can impede the investigation and preclude prosecution of witnesses for their role, no matter how heinous that role may have been. It's a helluva lot handier than something as blatant as a pardon.

5. Brilliant.That's how they kept some of the Iran-Contra perps out of jail.
Unfortunately, that seems to be a realistic scenario. You should hammer this one, and make sure it reaches our side on the Hill.

Thanks for your insight! :hi:

6. Though it is possible,
it is not particularly likely in this circumstance. Granting immunity now would only remove testimony given post-grand jury investigation. It wouldn't keep Fitzgerald from indicting and convicting anyone he already has in his cross-hairs.

More, it would obligate the person to give full and honest testimony; and "lie" would be grounds for a withdrawal of the immunity. The consequence of that would be that VP Cheney would become the focus.

History is knocking on the White House door. And it ain't going away.

8. Republican talking points on Fitzgerald
1. Fitzgerald is a closet communist who personally knows Saddam and were roomates in the 1960's.

2. Fitzgerald knowingly wrote many articles on Democratic Underground under another name condemning the Bush administration.

3. Fitzgerald's wife is a socialist lesbian who has filmed her children in stages of undress and sold the contents to Kim Jung Il.

4. Fitzgerald owns nuclear weapons where he keeps them somewhere near Teheran, Iran.

5. Fitzgerald is a Democrat.

6. Fitzgerald make a large profit on a shady land deal somewhere near Poughkeepsie, New York and used the profits for purchasing child porn.

7. Fitzgerald has had corporal relations with Valerie Plame AND Joe Wilson together.
