the "war on terrorism" is over! |
|
just heard it this morning...now we're engaged in the "global struggle against extremism"....so this means we're winning, right?
sounds like the same backslide as saying "weapons as mass destruction related activities" for justifying the occupation of iraq.....

1. To paraphrase Field Marshal Meyers (a couple of days ago): |
|
"If you call it a 'war' people seem to think you actually have to fight. So we are now calling it a 'continuing struggle', kind of along the lines of 'getting to work on time' - it will make things a lot easier to spin..."
"Excuse me, sir. Does you dog bite?" "No" "Ouch! I thought you said your dog doesn't bite!?" "That's is not my dog."

3. Wait! Where are we in the "War on Drugs"? Or the "War on Poverty"? |
|
BTW, did we ever wrap up the Korean War, 'cuz we're still there, last I checked. But we won that "War of Attrition" in Vietnam, right?
Geez, I'm still trying to get caught up on all these other unfinished "wars".

4. The NYT had an article on-line yesterday... |
|
New Name for 'War on Terror' Reflects Wider U.S. CampaignHere's a quote... "Administration and Pentagon officials say the revamped campaign has grown out of meetings of President Bush's senior national security advisers that began in January, and it reflects the evolution in Mr. Bush's own thinking nearly four years after the Sept. 11 attacks."So after four years of "evolution" in Bush's "thinking" and a half a year's worth of meetings of his senior national security advisers we have been presented with...

14. I didn't think he was a believer in evolution. |
|
Yet his "thinking" has evolved, they say.
I guess that means he can now make a TinkerToy windmill without hurting himself.
It says a lot about a man, that he can use the "moving parts" TinkerToys... :eyes:

7. Was there ever one to begin with? |
|
Hm, Ya' think Shrubco is trying to re-frame the debate a bit?
Since "struggles" can last lifetimes, now they don't have to worry about anyone criticizing them for losing or inflaming more extremists against the United States.

11. you forget it's doublespeak |
|
It means he's declaring war against anyone who is "insufficiently pro-war," because in the world of doublespeak, being "peaceful and moderate" must be labeled "violent extremism," and therefore punished with the full force of PATRIOT I and II. The dirty pseudowar has taken on a life of its own, and this "global struggle against violent extremism" is nothing but a pretext for killing and imprisoning its critics and Bush's critics.

This just shows how arrogant these pigs are. The problem is NOT with the approach or the conflict itself. It's simply a branding issue. All we need is a focus group and our marketing efforts will be back on track in no time.

is over. Poverty won."
Same in 2005 with terrorism.
