Are Democrats going to poison the gun bill again?
Edited on Wed Jul-27-05 02:01 PM by Idioteque
Last year, when the gun manufacturers protection bill came up, the democrats were successful in passing some poison pill amendments. In the end, the bill only got 8 votes!

I'm wondering if anybody here knows if this is the gameplan again or if the Republicans will use cloture to stop non germane amendments.

Roll call vote from last year

Edit: I'm assuming the amendment that probably killed the bill was the extension of the assault weapons ban. Since we don't have to worry about that any more, the bill might have a better chance now.

1. Fienstine has been grumbling about tacking on a .50 rifle ban onto it
but hasn't actually done anything yet.

3. She should...
There's no reason to let idiots get their hands on those public menaces.

2. Hope to hell they do...it's a thoroughly scummy bill...
"I'm assuming the amendment that probably killed the bill was the extension of the assault weapons ban"

It was that AND closing the gun show loophole. Ironically, two common lies from gun loonies are that the "assault weapons ban doesn't do anything" and that "the gun show loophole doesn't exist." The NRA-directed vote to scuttle the bill showed what blatant lies both of those claims are.

Oh yeah, and although anyone who advocates gun cotnrol swiftly gets accused of being anti-freedom, Mao's little Red Guards never jumped as cravenly and obediently as the pro-gun politicians who had been pushing the bill did when the NRA e-mailed orders to vote against it.

4. Reid and Byrd support this bill
so do about a dozen Democrats who endorsed it.

I am afraid this will not happen.

5. The bill has over 60 co-sponsors after today
over 20 or so of them Democrats.

Only Fienstien and Schumer and a handful of others are still seriously clinging to the dead wight anchor known as "gun control" which has been drowning the party for over a decade.
