The article also says that the energy bill passed because it was full of pork; hardly a victory for *. The sad thing is that the bill is incredibly expensive, and does nothing to develop alternative forms of energy.

I did not read that article, but I do not see anything in the bill to aggressively try to solve the upcoming energy crunch. I wonder how people will feel about *'s leadership on this issue when gas hits $5. Nobody can do anything in the near term to offset what might be in the offing, but it would help him to have some programs in place.

8. "$1.5 billion to the oil industry... |
|
haliburton and sugar land, texas. a full 75% of the $1.5 billion is earmarked for a private consortium located in delay's district and is not subject to direct governmental oversight."

4. Without CAFTA it would have all looked bad for Bush. |

That is why I am pissed as hell in particular at some Dems.

CAFTA is small potatoes, and I'm glad the Dems chose not to make this a central battle. NAFTA failed not because of the inherent lack of synergy between our two economies, but rather because the US insisted that Mexico sign off on the WTO prior to NAFTA. As a result, the Mexican economy is flooded with cheap Chinese imports. Go to any border town to shop for handicrafts, and you'll find they're likely manufactured in China. The Mexicans have lost huge numbers of manufacturing jobs, and they feel cheated by NAFTA, in a mirror image of our own feelings toward the agreement.
At worse, CAFTA might create another opportunity for those who seek to set up another Saipan-style sweatshop industry.

9. A no vote would still have reflected badly on the Bushies. |
|
Without arguing the merits of CAFTA I am for anything that makes these criminals look bad.
