Al Gore's response to running again?
“Basically, the answer is, I do not expect to ever be a candidate again,” Gore said. “I really don’t. The second part of the answer is, I haven’t ruled it out completely. And the third qualifier is, I don’t add the second part as a way of signalling coyness. It’s merely to complete an honest answer to the question and it in no way changes the principal part of the answer. Which is, I really do not expect that I will be a candidate. If I did expect to be a candidate again, I would probably not feel the same freedom to let it rip in these speeches the way I am. And I enjoy that. It feels”—and there was that word again—“it feels liberating to me.” Running again for the Senate or accepting a Cabinet position, he said, was also out of the question.

1. Mr. President, the decision to run is yours, but IF you do.....
...Do NOT stop speaking as you have done for the last 3 years. Rather continue speaking the truth that this country needs to hear. The American people need to know that the Democratic party does NOT approve of what that damned unelected Chimp has done while occupuying your office.

Whomever our candidate is, MUST speak that truth. And that's we can't trust the job to the DLC, or to anyone who let's the DLC dumb down their campaign. Not this time. Not ever again.

2. I love how intelligently he answers the question. This scares freepers.
They mock him to assuage their fear.

3. Gore on Bush...........
“I wasn’t surprised by Bush’s economic policies, but I was surprised by the foreign policy, and I think he was, too,” Gore told me. “The real distinction of this Presidency is that, at its core, he is a very weak man. He projects himself as incredibly strong, but behind closed doors he is incapable of saying no to his biggest financial supporters and his coalition in the Oval Office. He’s been shockingly malleable to Cheney and Rumsfeld and Wolfowitz and the whole New American Century bunch. He was rolled in the immediate aftermath of 9/11. He was too weak to resist it.

“I’m not of the school that questions his intelligence,” Gore went on. “There are different kinds of intelligence, and it’s arrogant for a person with one kind of intelligence to question someone with another kind. He certainly is a master at some things, and he has a following. He seeks strength in simplicity. But, in today’s world, that’s often a problem. I don’t think that he’s weak intellectually. I think that he is incurious. It’s astonishing to me that he’d spend an hour with his incoming Secretary of the Treasury and not ask him a single question. But I think his weakness is a moral weakness. I think he is a bully, and, like all bullies, he’s a coward when confronted with a force that he’s fearful of. His reaction to the extravagant and unbelievably selfish wish list of the wealthy interest groups that put him in the White House is obsequious. The degree of obsequiousness that is involved in saying ‘yes, yes, yes, yes, yes’ to whatever these people want, no matter the damage and harm done to the nation as a whole—that can come only from genuine moral cowardice. I don’t see any other explanation for it, because it’s not a question of principle. The only common denominator is each of the groups has a lot of money that they’re willing to put in service to his political fortunes and their ferocious and unyielding pursuit of public policies that benefit them at the expense of the nation.”

14. This is very telling of Bush
<It’s astonishing to me that he’d spend an hour with his incoming Secretary of the Treasury and not ask him a single question.> This explains Roberts. He's only getting Roberts because he's a loyalist and everything. That's how Bush works. Anybody who is loyal to the group and in with them.

4. He should just run in the primaries, let it all hang out, and see how it
goes.

5. Rootin' for a Gore comeback ...
Just have to point out that the New Yorker article was written almost a year ago. Since then, there has been no definite information about Gore's future plans but this is only to be expected.

Right now it is still too early for potential candidates to be talking about running. It does not make sense to formally enter the race at this point. And there is no way of saying that you would run, without effectively starting up your campaign.

If Gore decides to run for President then he is very unlikely to say anything definite in public until January 2007.

Personally - I really hope he does run. Al Gore has been proved right on Iraq, on the PATRIOT act, on the environment and climate change, on the budget deficit and on every other issue that matters.

But the conditions would have to be right for Al Gore to enter the race. He would have to know that the "mainstream" (in the positive sense) in the Democratic Party was moving in his direction.

Some observers and commentators have already noted that Al Gore would be in a strong position to rally the support of democrats (the progressive majority) who believe that Bush lied about Iraq.

Which doesn't mean that I disrespect Wes Clark. I'm sure he would make a great Secretary of State or Defense Secretary in a future Gore Administration. Maybe even VP, although I would personally prefer to see a woman VP. Like Barbara Boxer!

16. I hope Gore runs again too
I agree as well. No canidate should announce yet if they are running. I think by the time of the primaries ready to begin the public is going to want a democratic administration. We've been seeing the polls lately and they've been in our favor but not strong enough. Gore is a straight shooter and very honest with the public. I think in the debates he will be a lot better. He has had a lot of practice of public speaking lately and doing great speeches. I saw his speech he gave at a MoveOn event earlier this year and he was wonderful! I really hope he does a Nixon and comes back if Kerry can never be sworn in and proven election fraud.

We also have every indication the Republicans will steal the election again.

10. President Gore, just let me mention a couple of things:
Edited on Mon Aug-01-05 07:02 AM by BlueIris
I've read that you're a man who places exactly ZERO stock in astrology--which is fine. For the most part, neither do I. It's not something I base major life decisions on, it's not something I look to for definitive answers about the tough questions I've faced during my years on this earth. However, I just have to ask you--did you know that you're own astrological future looks very bright? As in, the kind of bright the could mean you yet achieve your wildest dreams? Maybe that even means something beyond the Presidency, I don't know. If I were you, though, I wouldn't rule out a run for elected office again, possibly high office. There are few people I've seen with more career longevity in their charts than you.

12. Cross-posted from another thread:
Gore says there's "close to a zero-percent chance" of another run

www.politics1.com

Former Vice President Al Gore (D-TN) tells Time magazine there is "close to a zero-percent chance" he will ever again run for office. Gore is also getting ready to launch Current TV, a liberal cable TV network aimed at a younger, hipper audience.
