changing its meaning entirely, and Donna Brazile didn't catch it. The quote was tha Santorum would have been one of the 13th century's greatest senators. Johns read it as would have been the 13th greatest senator of the century.
Idiot or intentionally misleading? I say he's an idiot, but the latter wouldn't surprise me.

That's not just a misreading. That's a total rewording. Even Dubya doesn't mangle sentences that badly.
The fact that Brazile didn't catch it and correct it demonstrates the fact that we need better, more informed Democratic representation on the 24 hour "news" circuit.
