They grew tired and frustrated. They felt no one was speaking for them. They were taken for granted, because they were the base and could be trusted to be the activists and stay loyal to the Party. But, there was an election in the not-so-distant future where they failed to show up. It was a disaster for the Democratic Party - just when they thought they could take back the House and Senate from the right-wing radicals.
Is this the direction we are headed? People just run out of gas? They give up because they do not see any progress. They worked their hearts out for nothing. The New Democrats only wanted to continue the status quo but with the Democrats in the driver's seat? And all those former activists and party loyalists simply disappeared? Where did they go?
Will they simply give up? Surrender their idealism to the corporate capitalists and move to the country? Grow their gardens and raise their chickens and leave the pigs behind? Is that the future?
