It look like Hackett is going to win, and possibly big because...
Edited on Tue Aug-02-05 04:56 PM by Gman
Rush was ranting like I haven't heard him in a long time. He also kept playing Hackett's commercial over and over and over. Rush did nothing but whine and complain about how Hackett was "hiding behind a uniform", lies about being a Democrat, a liberal, ad nauseum. Rush also whined that this was not a bellweather election contrary to what the Dems have said. He ranted on and on about this not being a bellweather election.

What this means to me is that Rush likely may be privvy to some polling data that says Hackett will win big. For Rush to rant like he did means he was desperately doing everything he could to hurt Hackett as much as he could in the little time left. If Hackett were going to lose, Rush would be very, very smug, as we all know.

So take heart, Ohio. This may well be the shot heard round the country!

corruption in the system these days it's a miracle I can still bring myself to go and vote.

2. Why does Rush hate the troops?
Kerry, McCain, Cleland and now Hackett...people who serve this country's armed forces and enter politics are the enemy to the neo-con chickenhawks.

5. Yeah, people should point that out to troops.
Sure, you can put your life on the line for this country...But don't dare think you can ever be a leader, and only fat rich draft dodgers could ever do that!

28. I talked with a person the other day who blamed everything on the
NeoCons. He claimed he was a conservative, therefore, okay. Well, everything we discussed he took the "neocon" talking point.

I sat down and thought. What if NeoCon was a Republican talking point so that "Conservative" would not become branded like Liberal? I made up my mind. There are no NeoCons. They are CONSERVATIVES, period.

Conservatives are out to bust the American economy. Conservatives denigrate our troops in uniform. Conservatives are out to destroy the middle class.

We may have a chance with moderate Republicans to upset the Conservative applecart, but it is the Conservative agenda that I oppose.

IS to point to Bush, who NEVER served in combat, dancing around in a military uniform, while Hackett actually fought in combat. Whose hiding behind the uniform?

17. This one is not worth the risk of stealing
Edited on Tue Aug-02-05 05:10 PM by glitch
you need high reward for high risk, and jean schmidt probably just doesn't have the juice to get the intervention she'll need.

edit: of course I am talking about risk evaluated by reasonable people, so who knows? Wouldn't it be so great if they went for it, not to help schmidt but to continue cover for 2004, and this is the one they get caught on? hey! we all have dreams.

I never listen to that Chicken Hawk bastard anymore but this crap is so far over the edge that even his stupid ass listeners should be ashamed for Limbaugh.

I hope Hackett makes something out of this,he should just to shut that fat FUCK up for a few minutes.I'd question Rush's service during the VN war and EXACTLY how he got that ass-pimple deferment that kept him at home safe and sound.

10. I agree with you on Pigboy, but I won't let myself believe a win
until I hear Schmidt concede. There's way too many unknowns that remain.

I actually said something similar to your comments on Bigboy on another thread. It sounded a little too much like defeat!

I really hope we're both reading him right, and we can celebrate tomorrow! But I don't think my brain can take it if I get too hyped up, and then have to take a defeat!

My fingers, legs & toes are crossed!

GO PAUL!!!!!

Hackett Campaign Already a Success

by Chris Bowers

As you probably already know, a Republican poll currently shows Paul Hackett with the margin of error in the special election in OH-02. Rest assured, this poll is real. I have sources high up inside both the Democratic and Republican parties who have seen it. Considering that Schmidt claims an old poll showed her winning by 17%, the momentum is undeniably in favor of Paul Hackett. It is now a real possibility that he could actually win.

However, while it is a possibility that he could win, keep in mind that Schmidt remains the favorite. The poll showed Hackett within the MoE--it didn't show him ahead. Republicans will also be dumping huge sums of cash into the district this weekend, in an ad buy, direct mailing and robo-call frenzy that will easily surpass Hackett's final efforts, despite the $350K+ we have raised for him (here and here). Also, in the special election last month, even though he was the top Democratic finisher, Hackett only finished fourth overall (though he did defeat Pat DeWine-haha). In other words, Schmidt is probably still a touch ahead in the polls, has a lot more money being spent on her behalf, and in a low turnout election will have the support of many die-hard Republican voters. While the mo' is clearly in Hackett's favor and he has made up a lot of ground, Schmidt remains the favorite. The real change is that she is no longer a lock.

However, even if Hackett loses, keep in mind that this campaign was already a success. It is going to be a lot closer than anyone thought it was going to be, and it has made real inroads into a deep red corner of Ohio. In the extended entry, I explain why. We should be proud of what we have accomplished here, and keep in mind that there are some people in our own party who believe that we have been wasting our time. Most importantly, we should hold Paul Hackett, a regular guy with a lot of guts who stands for what you and I stand for, in very high regard. Quite frankly, the whole things reminds me of the Dean campaign, and of working with Ginny Schrader last year, and not just because of Blogosphere Day. They have been my own inspiration to run for office. We need more people like them.

18. Reminds me of 1994
when even rock solid safe Democrats had close elections. Here in Texas, Henry B. Gonzales only pulled about 60% of the vote when he usually pulled 75 - 80% plus. Win or lose, this election is going to scare the shit out of the GOP.
