The DLC is probably praying that Hackett loses tonight.
Power corrupts and they don't want to lose it. Like I said in the previous thread....If Hackett wins or makes a good show of it percentage wise, this will prove to everyone that the DLC isn't needed anymore.

4. if they thought a Hackett win would hurt them
then I have no doubt that the DLC would hope for him to lose. They're on their way to Zell Miller style bitterness.

This is NOT their kind of Dem, and I'm damn glad of it!

9. the DLC can either get with the program or switch to Republicanism
A corporatist wing is only useful so long as the voters are in the corporatist. And we're not.

31. Not that they would have to switch very much.
They already vote pro-corporatist and pro-war anyway.

10. Their ideas may be misguided
But at the end of the day, the DLC are dems and progressives just like the rest of us. They want to get Repubs out of office just as much as the rest of us, they are just going about it in the not necessarily best way.

If Hackett wins -does that necessarily mean they are obsolete? I'm not sure. It's hard to say that a strategy that works for one conservative district in Ohio is going to work nation wide.

would it prove that Repub voters will vote for a Dem with the courage to tell it how it is and hold no punches? Hell! everyone loves a guy like that!

18. They are NOT progressives and they are barely Dems
And if they want to get Pukes out of office, they got a damn funny way of showing it (especially by voting for all the treasonous shit the Pukes vote for)

12. DLC will just take credit
I think the DLC will just spin it into a victory for them. I anticipate the official statement will say how the DLC conference in Columbus showed how committed they are to the Buckeye State, blah, blah, blah.... :eyes:

Can you seriously imagine there could be a victory (and close is also a victory) this big and everyone not take credit?

15. Come on guys, we need unity!
This is a bad time for us to start eating our own young. The Republicans are superbly organized, always on message and are kicking our ass. Get with the program, dudes, we either have to start doing the same thing, or we should get used to being the also-rans. IF WE TAKE ONE MORE ASS KICKING LIKE WE GOT IN 2004 WE ARE DEAD MEAT.

19. Hackett is pretty conservative, you realize?
Pretty much in the DLC mold. A conservative Dem running in a conservative district. Exactly the sort of race where the DLC can help the Democratic Party.

And I wouldn't place much importance on this race vis a vis the 2006 election cycle - this is a special election with low voter turnout. Whoever can get their vote out will win this thing.

it's not a race to base an overall strategy on.

23. There's a difference between conservative and corporatist.
The guy's a marine who thinks Iraq has a valid purpose. Based on that, I wouldn't consider him a Liberal. But he's willing to call the Chimp out on his fuckups, and he's not making any money off Iraq (like Feinstein and her husband, for example). So there *IS* a difference between a conservative Democrat, and a corporatist DLC traitor.

32. that's a good point -
he's more of a traditional conservative than a dlc democrat.

But I don't really see the dlc in such black and white terms as "corporatist traitor". Some members suck, some are ok.

24. Are you kidding!? He is pro-gun rights and that's about it!
I'm pro-gun rights. I think his "I don't want the government in my bedroom or in my gun cabinet" line is the kind of message we need to connect with red-states. Hackett is a superhero as far as I'm concerned.

20. Yes, and MORE than that, it proves Dean is right!
Edited on Tue Aug-02-05 08:19 PM by Carolab
Hackett is one of the Democracy for America "Dean's list" candidates! The DFA and the DNC support him!

Paul Hackett for United States Congress. Paul knows what's at stake for all Americans. As a retired major in the United States Marine Corp, he voluntarily left Ohio to serve in Iraq. As an opponent of the war, Paul answered the call of duty because he knows that America needs leaders who don't shy from adversity. Now, he is running for Congress in the 2nd congressional district of Ohio fighting to promote small business growth, sustainable environmental policy and fiscal responsibility. Help us give Iraq war veterans their first voice in Congress and bring us a step closer to taking our country back in 2006 and 2008. Support Paul Hackett for United States Congress today. The special election is August 2, 2005.

Unlike the Repukes, we have a big tent. DLC is way too slick for my liking but they raise a bunch of money. Go vote for Nader. He needs your vote.
