a memo from Paul Hackett

------- Original Message --------
Subject: A Victory for Democracy
Date: Wed, 03 Aug 2005 10:36:13 -0400
From: Paul Hackett <info@democracyforamerica.com>
To: xxxxxx

Dear xxxx
I Believe!

Yesterday, one of the reddest regions in America turned a whole lot bluer.

I ran in a special election to serve in the United States House of Representatives from the 2nd District of Ohio. I am a Marine recently returned from Iraq, a husband, a father, an attorney, and a Democrat.

When I won the Democratic primary for this contest, few people believed we had a shot at victory. But DFA put its faith in me -- and went to work organizing on the ground and online. Your support helped build the greatest Democratic get-out-the-vote effort this district has ever known.

While we didn't pull out a victory yesterday -- we came incredibly close. We got 48 percent of the vote. And in those results rests hope for the future.

It had been 15 years since a Democratic candidate for Congress received more than 30 percent of the vote in Ohio's 2nd District and decades since a Democrat held the seat. Your support helped me improve Democratic performance by nearly 20 percent. This is a victory for democracy. And if we can do this in Ohio -- we can do it anywhere.

Join me, and help DFA elect Democrats in Ohio and across the country:

http://www.democracyforamerica.com/bat

We have the power to win back Congress. Yesterday proved it. And DFA is on the front lines of the fight -- determined, hopeful and fearless.

I believe we can change this country. I believe we can win in every state -- and I know that you do too. Please join me today:

http://www.democracyforamerica.com/bat

Thank you,

Paul Hackett

9. Also keep in mind...
Keep in mind that Republicans in Ohio have recently been hit by several scandals in a row. It's not too surprising (not marginalzing what he did) that Hackett was able to pry some Republicans over to his side.

18. Well...
If the election for President was held in July or August the outcome might have been different. Granted that before the election there were scandals. However, it seems like recently the scandals are starting to add up and actually affect the WH.

7. Received the same e-mail from Hackett
Even though he lost the closeness of the race is good news for us. Bad news for the right.

Let's build on this momentum.

8. Ohio...
Ohio is starting to look like a real possibility for Democrats to pick up in 2008. If voters in such a red district can be persuaded, imagine how the blue districts would turn out.

10. Hackett did make them scared
:D They spent loads of money I've heard in a very red area so we all know they were worried. Hackett proved that people are now fed up with Bush and wanting change. In a lot of areas he did a lot better than Kerry last November. I'm proud of Mr. Hackett and I hope he doesn't go back to Iraq but stays and fights here.

19. Ground Control to Major Paul
I don't believe the results. They are certainly plausible, and might even be true. But Clermont County is where people were caught putting stickers over punch holes for Kerry in Nov. 2004, and Warren County is where there was no oversight whatsoever of the counting process because they put our a fake terror alert. If you believe that similar crap was not pulled against you, I have a nice bridge for sale. A full audit might still have resulted in a narrow loss, but I refuse to believe any result that doesn't have one.

If you know something we don't know about oversight of the tabulation process, please let us know.

22. Warren County ...let me tell ya
I can go on and on about that place.
There are either RICH RICH living there, who's children don't go to the public schools, and the rest are SO Evangelical, they think sex between man and wife,is a sin.(Quakers)
There is a church on every corner!! No kidding.
My brother moved to a town there called Waynesville.
He hasn't been the same since.
He thinks now that we are sinners because we are pagans.(Catholic).
He was told to call anyone he knew that would vote for Kerry 04, and do anything to convince them otherwise.
He has my newly widowed mother in tears.
He won't visit her now.

The funny thing is that Waynesville is know as the "Most Haunted City in Ohio"

Lance Cpls. Michael Cifuentes, 24, of Oxford, Timothy Michael Bell Jr., 22, a graduate of Lakota East High School in Butler County, and 23-year-old Brett Wightman of Sabina in Clinton County were among the dead.

All 14 were members of the same Ohio-based battalion that lost six Marines two days earlier, and nine of them were from a single smaller unit in Columbus, Marine officials said.
