How about a Clinton/Dean ticket?
Just because Hillary doesn't attack at every chance doesn't mean she's not able to win. Some of the most dangerous animals in the wild attack when absolutely necessary, not out of whim.

An attack by Hillary at this moment might get her in the papers for 2 days, but it would also put yet another blemish on the democrats as haters, even if it isn't true. Remember, the Neocons are known to twist what you say into something completely different and put it in 30 second spots 10 times a day and on every talk show.

Notice that Bill Clinton doesn't outright attack either, yet he's regarded as a very strong Democrat. I can't remember the last time that Bill actually outright slammed someone. There's an old saying: Democracy is the art of letting someone else get your way.

Tact is everything. Kerry, for instance, has tact, but he was just boring as hell and couldn't relate to 'common' people out in the country who aren't necessarily neocons but who want someone they feel they can relate to.

Howard Dean is a good candidate because he can relate very well to 'common' people. He also doesn't outright attack all that often. It just seems that way because the neocons put it in the media for weeks on end. They're still playing the 'no republican has ever made an honest living' bit that he said a while ago on an almost daily basis. The reason this works for Dean is that he knows how to NOT fall into the common neocon traps. They want him to shoot his mouth off and dig himself deeper when they smear him. He just comes out and says "Yeah. I did say the republican party is mostly white christians. It IS, isn't it?" and leaves it at that. No trying to explain himself and digging himself in deeper.

Somewhere in the middle of Hillary and Dean is where Bill Clinton was/is, and it's also why he did so well.

In my opinion, a Clinton/Dean ticket would be ideal. Don't run Dean for the president. Let Dean run cleanup for Clinton, which is (in my opinion) the more important of the two jobs. The VP candidate has the ability to speak his mind without consequence MUCH easier than the president, while still getting the same media coverage.

Also, by running Clinton/Dean, you have both sides of the ticket covered. Hillary would pick up the moderates VERY easily, and Dean will pick up the progressives VERY easily. Covering both sides of the Democratic spectrum is what is needed to win.

I'm pretty sure this isn't a very popular opinion here, but it is something that would work.

1. There is too much irrational hatred of Hilary
Clinton. I seriously don't think she could overcome it and win.

2. That's where Dean comes in. People put trust in Dean and believe
what he says to be the truth.

It's not the moderates that hate Hillary. It's the far left and the far right.

6. I personally think that Clark wouldn't do very well.
The majority of americans have no clue who Clark is. With that being the case, the right will do to him exactly what they did to Kerry. Since nobody knows anything about him, they will paint whatever picture of him they want... and it won't be good.

Kerry is a decorated Vietnam veteran who stood up for his beliefs, and they painted him as a flip flopping coward... which did stick in people's minds, no matter what Kerry said.

14. There is time for people to get to know Clark.....
so the fact that people don't know him now is not a reason NOT to support him.

You may not know anything about Wes Clark.....but they will, and I do.

Whatever pic they try to paint of Clark, it won't be as easy as you think.

What are they gonna do?.....call him Ashley Wilkes (as Rush does)? Ashley Wilkes is favored over Rett Bulter in the South, so I don't know how that would go. Ashley Wilkes was a brave Veteran who hated war, and stayed true to his love. those are not negative attributes...

Try to remember this very important thing....Clark's claim to fame is not his service in Vietnam a la Kerry 35 years ago. Sure, it helps that he was seriously wounded and almost lost his life while commanding his troops to safety. But that his not what Clark highlights as his strength.

Clark Planned, led and won the last noble war the U.S. fought without a single American Casualty.....about 5 years ago. He also negotiated peace during the Dayton Peace Accords.

Understand this simple fact....and don't let it escape you....Clark won a war. Try to remember that, when you talk about how Kerry was trashed (unfairly, I might say). The truth is that they are not the same people.

I respect Kerry, but it is Clark who is the most decorated Officer since Einsenhower.

15. The more people learn about Clark the more they like and support
him. Compare that to most politicians where the more you learn about them the more difficult it is to vote for them. I wouldn't be surprised if used car salesmen polled higher than politicians.

4. I like to know Dean is running the DNC. I like him there.
He pisses off the status-quo guys. He speaks for me. I wanted him to be the nom in 04, and grew as a Dem and an American when it became clear he wouldn't be, but Dean rocks, he really does.

I like him where he is. I think its a good thing he stay there. He seems to be getting somewhere. The OH dist2 special election reulsts I attribute to Dean to some measure.

Not that I wouldn't vote for him, I sure as hell would, and that might be a good thing by 07 or 08, but for now, I think Dean should keep doing what he's doing, and we'll run two of our other best in 08.

imho

7. Why? Don't just say she won't be elected without giving your reasons.
Edited on Thu Aug-04-05 01:42 AM by merwin
There is no rational reason why Hillary and Dean couldn't take the white house. Add Bill on top of that pulling the strings for the campaign, and it's a clear win.

The sheer fact that Bill is her husband gives her that much more credibility. Much of the reason Shrub won was because of Bush Sr. (who is NOTHING like shrub)... For example, Bush Sr fired Rove :-)

9. Zogby: McCain Would Trounce Hillary in ’08 Match-up, 54%-35%
http://www.zogby.com/news/ReadNews.dbm?ID=1005

Arizona Senator John McCain would overwhelmingly defeat New York Senator and former First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton in a theoretical 2008 presidential match-up, a new Zogby America poll reveals.

(snip)

The Zogby America survey of 1000 likely voters, conducted from June 20 through 22, 2005, has a margin of error of +/-3.2 percentage points.

(snip)

The survey finds that both senators far outdistance their nearest competition for their parties’ nominations—but in a head-to-head match-up, the Arizona Republican bests the New York Democrat by 19 points, leading her 54% to 35%. McCain would also defeat Massachusetts Senator—and former Democratic presidential candidate—John Kerry by a full 20 points, 55% to 35%.

McCain has majority support in every single geographic region of the country. But more telling may be the fact that, even in the states carried by Kerry in 2004, McCain comes out comfortably on top—leading Clinton by 49 to 38% and Kerry by 50% to 40%. Among the states carried by President Bush, the margin is even wider, giving McCain a 58% to 33% lead over Clinton and 59% to 32% lead over Kerry.

McCain leads with most demographics, though Clinton would best him narrowly among Hispanic voters (45% to 38%) and would win African Americans by 80% to 19%. But that 19% would be the highest vote tally for a Republican with African Americans in decades. McCain leads Clinton with every age group except voters under 30, where the two are in a dead heat.

13. Why? OK, I'll bite.
1. She's a Dem. (Live free or Diebold!)
2. She's a woman. (Some people simply will not vote for a woman.)
3. She's a Clinton. (You have no idea how badly freepers hate this woman.)
4. She's insufferable. (I know plenty of Dems - myself included - who can't stand her.)
5. She's a DINO. (Her opinions would be not too much unlike the puke's candidate.)
6. She's a senator. (Senators simply don't win elections. these days.)
7. She's a Clinton. (I think I already said that...)

As for Dean, remember the smear job the MSM performed on him after the scream? Imagine that times a million.

I'm sorry, but Hillary, Dean, Boxer, Edwards...none of these people will ever be able to overcome Diebold and pull off an overwhelming win. We need some one who's not afraid to kick ass and chew bubblegum...if you ask me, that would General Clark.

8. Pugnacious ticket. Funny how Hillary is now the moderate, and Dean the
liberal, when a few years ago Dean was the moderate and Hillary the flaming feminazi.

It's all perception. They are both left of center, but know how to play the middle.

I like that ticket a lot, actually. It does round things out very well, it has an historic element, and it has star power.

need to win. The Democrats need to nominate a leader that people can rally behind and believe in.

28. A Clark/Clinton would work for many of the same reasons as
my original post... pair up a left with a moderate. Doesn't really matter too much which is the president, since the right will attack both candidates evenly.

26. May be we can start by avoiding MSM CW, that would help !!
But of course, that would be too difficult.

This said, you are right only in one point. Dean would be a good attack dog if he decided to run as VP. However, what he would be getting as coverage and how his attacks would be reported would depend of how the MSM want to show him, so I would not put too much hope in that.

Preferably not of Clinton though.
