mass e-mail from Kerry, RE: 2006, Santorum
Consider what's at stake in just Democrat Bob Casey's race against Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum. Santorum is totally out of touch with the reality facing American families and totally out of touch with mainstream American values. And yet he has become the mainstream within the Republican Party:

Santorum believes millions of people are uninsured because, "some people don't want - like the Amish."
Santorum believes child care is a "Washington" issue that ordinary Americans don't care about.
He said that the environmental movement's days are numbered and that environmentalism is against nature.
He believes in privatizing Social Security.
Santorum thinks it's wrong to help single mothers earn a college degree. In his book, It Takes a Family, Santorum said that "The notion that college education is a cost-effective way to help poor, low-skill, unmarried mothers with high school diplomas or GEDs move up the economic ladder is just wrong."

By the time the GOP wraps up its summer summit on Saturday afternoon, we need to have raised $500,000 to support our work to defeat extremists like Rick Santorum.

4. He was probably a key player in the Spanish Inquisition...
in a previous life. Or at least a judge at the witch trials.

Anyway, I'm a PA Dem. and hope that no one considers me guilty by association. Never voted for a Repub. in the three elections I've voted in.

2. He must surely be the very center of the bullseye on the Democrats'
target; he simply has to go. Calling all Keystoners!

5. This is great! Thank you Senator Kerry!
Casey is an honest politician. He is hardworking and "normal" unlike Santorium. I am so happy to see Kerry working on behalf of Casey in Pa. Kerry has been doing a lot to help out other dems running in 2006. I for one appreciate his efforts!

6. Bush's Promote Marriage Act
Santorum's views on single mothers is to JUST GET MARRIED, that will solve everything. That is the same concept put forth in Bush's Promote Marriage Act.

Not to downgrade a college education, but there was a program here in NY a few years ago, where they trained welfare mothers in the Trades; plumbers, electricians, mechanics. The papers did a follow up on one of these women. Five years later, she was making $45/hour, had bought her own house, and was engaged to marry another plumber. She said her fiance was going to adopt her son. The reporter asked her what she thought of Bush's Promote Marriage Act. She said no way in hell would she have married the father of her son. He was a high school drop out who couldn't hold a job, a drug addict, and he beat her. The woman said this program helped her get her life back, gave her a sense of self worth, and through it, met a wonderful man who "adored her son" as if he were his own flesh and blood.

Both Santorum AND Bush are living in a dream world, out of touch with reality.
