Edited on Fri Aug-05-05 10:44 PM by SnoopDog
Bus loads, car loads, plane loads of people just peacefully camping out in Crawford...

Showing our Cowardly Commander that we are watching... Wondering if he is 'working hard' to end the illegal invasion of Iraq.

Just looking at the Ranch. Looking upon his every move.

Legally and peacefully.

Millions of people.

Force the bastard to leave Crawford and maybe have him crawl under the rock he came from.

We have weeks and weeks to congregate.

Cindy Sheehan is a true Patriot and a hero.

But I'd be a little wary about this, especially if it went near Bush's ranch. It would definitely be cool for a million people to ask him what exactly he's done that makes him deserving of a vacation, a 5 week one no less. But with the hatred for him that there is, I'd be worried things would get out of control and the army or national guard would have to be called in to regain control.

Although I admit that I am sometimes suspicious of giant protests since I live about half an hour from Seattle and it seems like every time there's a protest there the place gets trashed for no good reason at all. It doesn't take very many jerks to make things go to hell in a handbasket fast.

And if Bush were somehwow threatened I'd hate to see the swift brutal reaction that would be needed to prevent his harm. Wouldn't want to see anyone hurt, neither protestor nor police officer/national guard/soldier, etc.

Then again, there's always those lovely "free speech zones" :puke:

20. Kent State may have saved hundreds of soldiers lives.
As appalling and tragic it was, it shocked middle class America to its core to think that their little Suzie might get shot by Tommy, the neighbor's kid. It accelerated the withdrawal from Viet Nam, methinks.

Many people have commitments - of course that is a bull shit excuse - the same one I use unfortunately.

But we have 6 weeks. And you know what, maybe we all can rearrange our schedules. Me included.

What is more important?

It would rival (although not a contest) the Million Man March...

This is our America we are fighting for.

A NeoCon can easily live in our world - we cannot live in their world - it lacks peace, freedom, cleanliness, and the rule of law.

No need to worry FBI, etc. We just sit and stare.

23. Groups joining Cindy Sheehan:
Dear Friends and Supporters,

George Bush said speaking about the dreadful loss of life in Iraq in August: (08/03/05): "We have to honor the sacrifices of the fallen by completing the mission." "The families of the fallen can be assured that they died for a noble cause."

In reaction to these two assinine and hurtful statements, members of Gold Star Families for Peace (GSFP) are going to George's vacation home in Crawford, Tx this Saturday, August 6th at 11:00 am to confront him on these two statements.

1) We want our loved ones' sacrifices to be honored by bringing our nation's sons and daughters home from the travesty that is Iraq IMMEDIATELY, since this war is based on horrendous lies and deceptions. Just because our children are dead, why would we want any more families to suffer the same pain and devastation that we are?

2) We would like for him to explain this "noble cause" to us and ask him why Jenna and Barbara are not in harm's way, if the cause is so noble.

3) If George is not ready to send the twins, then he should bring our troops home immediately. We will demand a speedy withdrawal.

GSFP will be joined by members of Veteran's for Peace (VFP), Military Families Speak Out (MFSO), Iraq Veterans Against the War (IVAW), Code Pink, and Crawford Peace House.

We GSFP members will not leave until we get answers from George Bush. We deserve and expect him to welcome us with answers to as why our loved ones are dead.

Every worker for peace, every worker for justice, every person who wants our country back are welcomed to join us on Saturday. Show George Bush that we mean business. Be there to support us family members who have already been through so much. We are fighting for our country, our world, especially the children.

Crawford is about 2 hours from Dallas where the VFP Convention is being held this weekend. There will be car pools from the convention.

HONOR OUR LOVED ONES' SACRIFICES: BRING OUR TROOPS HOME NOW!!!!

Bring water and hats...we plan on staying until we are arrested or satisfied with the answers. (I am betting on jail).

Please pass this email on to your friends, lists, and media.

Cindy Sheehan

19. From Last Night
A BRIEF DISCUSSION WITH CINDY SHEEHAN

By Buddy Spell
Upbeat Defiance.com

August 4, 2005

For the last thirty-six hours or so, there has been a rumor percolating within activist circles that Cindy Sheehan, patriot warrior and co-founder of Gold Star Families for Peace, was lashing together a direct action at George W. Bush’s home in Crawford, Texas this weekend. The rumor was confirmed by a post on her Daily Kos diary at http://www.dailykos.com/story/2005/8/4/94551/60876 .

So, this lady, who has been called “the new face of the antiwar movement,” inspires us once again as she fights for the memory of her oldest child, Casey, who lost his life in the occupation of Iraq. She is an American hero who also fights for every mother’s child caught up in the meat grinder which is American foreign policy.

In the month of September, Cindy is scheduled to appear in Italy, Colorado, Louisiana, and Washington, DC for the September 24th mass rally. But for now, she seems content to make her stand in the Lone Star State. When we spoke this evening, she said that she has a few questions for the president and that she’s heading to Crawford to get the answers. “I am not leaving until George answers me or I am arrested. I may stay there the entire month of August.”

Two days ago, this action wasn’t even a consideration. I asked her if something in particular had happened to inspire this abrupt change in plans. “Yes the deaths of 24 soldiers already this month and the president's asinine comments about it. Bush said that we families who have fallen loved ones can rest assured that our loved ones died for a ‘Noble Cause’ I want him to explain to me what this cause is. He also AGAIN said that we need to honor the sacrifices of the fallen and their families by completing the mission. I want him to know not to abuse and exploit Casey's name and our family to continue the killing. Every member of GSFP is behind us on this.”

Not only Gold Star Families for Peace, but, according to Cindy, the action has already been endorsed by “VFP, MFSO, IVAW, Code Pink, and the Crawford Peace House.”

The direct action begins this Saturday, August 6, at 11:00 AM. It remains to be seen as to how and when it will end. Upbeat Defiance will maintain contact with our friend, Cindy Sheehan, throughout this action and will report accordingly.

Peace out.

58. You're right
and I'm not trying to throw water on this idea. I hope it comes to fruition. But people need to be aware of the climate there (and I don't just mean the 100+ degree weather).

I'm from Texas, and while the map says it's a part of the United States, it really is like a whole different country, as the tourist board once said.

I promise you, if this protest comes together, especially if it comes together without really high profile people there to offer some popularity protection, it will be far more vicious that the NYC RNC or a DC protest. And, it would be especially dangerous for minorities. Remember, this is the state where black folks still get murdered by being dragged behind pickup trucks. I once had a boyfriend (who is still a dear friend) who could only safely be seen with me in Austin, not anywhere else in the state. Why? He was too black to date a white woman. That was way back in 2002.

that is why I mentioned what I did in another post. This has to be well coordinated and big and still it's possible people will get hurt but the odds of people getting hurt goes way up if there aren't many people.

Now, Cindy Sheehan has some protection because she is well known. I think that will protect her. I hope it will.

34. UPDATE FROM DALLAS REGARDING THE CRAWFORD CAMPAIGN
By Buddy Spell
Upbeat Defiance.com
LOUISIANA ACTIVIST NETWORK
August 5, 2005

I just received an update from Cindy Sheehan in Dallas where she is attending the Veterans for Peace Convention before shoving off for Crawford in the morning. We were both a bit blown away by a link I sent her to a thread running at Democratic Underground where the forum members were speculating on what it would be like if a million people showed up with her at the ranch.
(http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x1989074). Her response was classic Cindy: “What did I start?”

Well, we’ll see. Cloistered in the convention events there in Dallas, Cindy seems fairly unaware of the activity out on the web relative to her carpool adventure to Crawford. I asked her how many she expected to have with her tomorrow. “I don’t know...I have heard that there are people coming in from as far away as Canton, Ohio...it’s so hard to say.”

She clearly expects to be in Crawford for the rest of August. I asked her if she would be recruiting activists to join her in Texas and she said, “I would appreciate the company if I am camping there.”

I asked her what we could do for her right now:

“Put pressure on the media to report that George won't meet with me.
Send around the petition to demand a full withdrawal of the troops.
Counter-recruitment.
Keep up the good work!!!”

I’ll be talking with her in the morning and will update you as warranted. If things go well, I’ll be reporting from Crawford by Thursday morning. Maybe I’ll see you there.

Peace out.

The Crawford Peace House ain't going to be able to handle any big group for very long, much less thousands, if that really might happen. Maybe we can drum up some Texans to ferry in needful things if we know what is needed and where to go.

38. Not many working Americans can take 4 weeks off.
Those than can take 4 weeks off probably wouldn't choose to dick around for a month in Crawford Texas in August. Such is our Prez.
If people do show up in any numbers they will need food, water shade tents, trash hauled, more signs, banners, flags...hell just about anything you can think of.
How many Texans could take a day or two to help out?
I could. Where will they be? Is there a sympathetic rancher in Crawford who will open his gates? I wouldn't count on it.

This is a really cool idea but I'm not sure it will come together without some organizing and real publicity. It could also be a disaster. I'll look at this. Post any info you find and keep this thread going.

My wife and I will probably be heading over from New Orleans Wednesday night.

I'll have an idea of what they need by Sunday evening and will put it here.

This could be really big....

Be very careful if you are going there on your own. And be aware that there will be road blocks up and you will likely be unable to get into Crawford. They've done it before.

41. Logistics is always a bitch... No need for 4 weeks off - just what you...
can do...

Waves of citizens coming in and leaving when they have to.

A statement. A statement that the world would understand and get behind.

It's just an idea. A good idea. A logistically possible idea. Just line the streets. The towns. The out lining areas.

We are here to make the bastard get out of Crawford.

I think people could get behind it if we find a way to make it practical for people to participate. Most people have never been to any sort of "protest". They don't know what to do.

53. Beginning of great idea
But instead of a march, there needs to be a vigil. Maybe somebody could buy a little land and bring in some entertainment. A thousand people for a thousand days is a million people. Willie Nelson could get a hundred thousand there by himself.

That really is a good idea as a million people in Washington could go unnoticed by almost all of America.

to almost hope for some kind of incident in crawford? I don't want anyone getting hurt obviously but some independent video of some SS agents acting like the historical SS might further expose the true face of this evil administration. I only wish I could be there when they try to arrest Cindy Sheehan. If that happens I suspect the veterans for peace would start feeling less than peaceful and hopefully chivalrous enough to fight for our true heroine Cindy.

P.S. I say we make this a benchmark moment and a pact amongst ourselves. If, Gods forbid, we get some awful repeat of a Kent State in Crawford this weekend then it's on folks. No waiting until the 2006 elections. We go to DC or Crawford by the millions and we don't move till the kill us all or the Chimp hands us his resignation.

77. CRAWFORD UPDATE - 8/6/5 - 12:00 PM (CST)
Just spoke with Cindy 10 minutes ago.

They are still @ Crawford Peace House and are heading to the ranch at any moment now. "Lots of people and more gathering outside." She wouldn't hazzard a guess as to how many. "People keep showing up."

She will call with regular updates through this evening.

Edited on Mon Aug-08-05 01:19 PM by Zan_of_Texas
Sunday morning, Google News showed over 500 stories around the world on this! Amazin'!

To keep up, check in at this local newspaper, The Lone Star Iconoclast. This little paper bucked the area's politics and refused to endorse Bush in 2004. They survived, and are reporting on the vigil.

President Bush Ditches Mother Of Slain Soldier

By Nathan Diebenow
Associate Editor
The Lone Star Iconoclast
http://www.iconoclast-texas.com/News/2005/31-40/32news01.htm

CRAWFORD - The mother of a U.S. soldier slain in Iraq was denied a face-to-face meeting with President Bush here Saturday after she walked through a ditch-like path in the August heat to the President’s Prairie Chapel Ranch.

“I didn’t come all this way from California to stand here in a ditch,” said Cindy Sheehan, 48, co-founder of Gold Star Families for Peace, attempting to continue her trek to the ranch. Even though two of the President’s aides later agreed to deliver her message to him, Sheehan said that she would remain in Crawford for the whole month, if need be, until she is granted a private audience with the commander-in-chief to ask him for what “noble cause” did her son die overseas.

“If he doesn’t come out to talk to me in Crawford, I’ll follow him to D.C., and I’ll camp out on his lawn,” she said, to a round of applause from her supporters. “I’ll go to prison. I don’t want to live in a country where people are treated this way.” Sheehan’s actions, she said, were sparked by President Bush’s comments like those made last Wednesday in Grapevine to about 1,800 members of the American Legislative Exchange Council: “Our men and women who’ve lost their lives in Iraq and Afghanistan and in this war on terror have died in a noble cause and a selfless cause.”

I know there were thousands of grieving mothers & wives during the Vietnam era, but I'm thinking if there had been one woman like Cindy, one mother, during the Vietnam War, to sort of spearhead the resistance & put a face to it, maybe it would have ended sooner. God bless her for all she's doing & may she know how much support she has.

88. I heard Cindy Sheehan on Mike Malloy's show last night...
That is why I wrote this thread.

She was in Dallas giving a speech, and because her trip to London with John Conyers was canceled, she just said 'my as well go to Crawford' and 'visit George'.

She is demanding to meet with bush and ask why her son died. What was the nobel cause he is referring to? She wants to hear the truth - "it is for oil, imperialism, and to get rich".

She said that if he doesn't meet with him tomorrow (that is now today), that she will 'pitch a tent' and wait for him. And if he doesn't talk with him in Crawford, she will follow him to Washington and pitch a tent there.

She wants to hear bush give a reason for this war - 'a war based on lies', and if it is so nobel a cause, '..<have bush> sacrifice your own skin', meaning send in your own family since it is of such nobel cause.

She stated that "<no one> can take anything else from me - I have nothing to loose". She wants her answers. And she won't stop.

She said that we the people need to stop this war as "Congress will not do anything to stop it".

Please note that I paraphrased her quotes, and did my best to deliver her message, and in no way mean to speak for her. I went to Ben Birch's WhiteRoseSociety.org (http://whiterosesociety.org/Malloy.html) and listened to Malloy's broadcast from last night. Go to Time Index 81:00 (thru 86:50) to listen to Cindy directly.

It is well worth your 10 minutes to listen to this lady. She is a true patriot who is doing something to change the world.

Bless her heart.

90. Thats how it started by in the spring of '69
at Queens College (CUNY) - we went to talk to the college president - to tell him we didn't want the recruiters on campus. Just went to talk to him - and we took over the college for a week -living in the admin offices, just waiting for him to talk to us

I think its a great idea that anyone who can get to Crawford should join Cindy.

BTW - NPR news just reported on her "protest"

93. I assume the whole basis of this stand is and should be looked at
as protesting the war, I have read her speech and I honestly don't see # coming out to meet her and answer the question she wants to which is "Why did you kill my son?" I mean, what is the answer? Who in their right mind would admit to murder? No matter how he answers the question, he loses, he knows it, she knows it.

So all in all, people should look toward's Cindy's stance as a protest to an illegal war and if one agrees it is illegal as well as immoral, then those same people should try to find a way to walk beside her and not only in spirit since answers' to the questions she wants to ask will never be forthcoming, not from this adminsitration.

She is finally getting airtime, how many protests have gotten airtime these last several years? Not many I promise you, and the few that did, very little, one can liken her stand to custards last stand if you will, the time is now if one wants to be heard by mainstream America to help end this illegal occupation.

This is your chance people to be heard. Use it wisely.

98. TURDSTOCK IT IS!! Does anyone know how to get hold of Willie Nelson
and as many other bands as there are who hold our views?

Is there some LAND in Crawford that can be used for this?

This is how it was at Woodstock...the word spread, and they came in droves. And this time, we've got even more time to get there! (Thanks to the chimpmaster's penchant for long vacations.)

As far as "modesty" and lack of bathroom facilities...well, those of us in the Woodstock generation may keep our clothes on more often these days than we did at Woodstock, but we haven't forgotten how to take 'em off! We may not LOOK as beautiful as we once did without our clothes, but underneath, we're even better!

How many marches have they ignored and trivialized? The story's already disappeared in the news...let's see...price of oil, sandstorm, Peter Jennings dies, Jackson jurors regret acquittal, cheerleaders help nab hit-and-run driver, daylight savings time, plans to send more troops to Iraq, Energy bill, men have trouble hearing women...nope, no Cindy Sheehan. They're not going to report it and it'll be like it never happened.
