1. Be thankful this is your first glimpse of Levin
His radio show is on right after Hannity here in NYC and his voice alone would lead you screaming into the night.

how I never saw or heard or read of him before this. Fools come in all sizes, shapes and ideologies.

6. don't like your remark
there are enough NY Jewish lefties to balance- I am one of those- as if his religion is a relevant factor in his political view. Your remark has anti-Semetic overtones- unless it is too early for me and I don't get the joke.

8. i think the reference is to savage weenie
jewish aint nothing to be ashamed of....jewish guys do predominate in some media areas, don't they?...i'm native (indian) and know what it's like to be singled out, but mygod, these are incredibly powerful men, having vast forums for their hateful ideas....anti semitism seems to have done most damage in the minds of guys with characters like rush limbah-humbug, hannati and brite hum, bill orally and anus the coulter etc, yet they are never put on the defensive by their advocacy of race hate, and they almost certainly are the ones who'll redo the holocaust if they can, yet...
>anti semites (racists) are stupid: and TomClash isn't stupid, just denoting possible factors to consider
(of course, who in hell am I?)

if the "jewish" reference is to "savage" weenie, then you mean it was used as a slur.

I never find it relevant to drag someone's race or religion as part of attacking their idiotic views.

12. nothing.......but
why did 'michael a weiner' rename hisself savage? you're right that the jewish people are innocent bystanders in this, but it's also dishonest to say that mike's personality hasn't been shaped by his good fortune in his being jewish, and he has tranmogrified that into attacks on those who haven't got any fortune at all....
i wanna tell you a lil story...in the 80's i was a sailor on a lakes freighter, and we were in quebec city; i was uptown with an east european shipmate who expressed anti semitism. later on, at one point he said something that seemed goofy, and so to shut him up, i told him i was jewish! well, he jumped up and attacked yours truly: worse then that, everybody in this bar assisted him in throwing me out into a snowbank! Ignorance is understandable in a lowlife sailor bar in quebec city, but it's not in michael savage, because he knows better, and his jewishness does have SOMETHING to do with it

that is being courted for an Indian casino project in another state that a LV entertainment industry dude owns the land and is connected to someone who I think maybe be part of the Jewish mob. Looking him up lead me to this blog: http://smoothstone.blogspot.com/2005/08/status-of-gaza-right-now.html which is how I found the Levin blog that freaked me out. I had no idea jewish or Israeli folk would be so Bush-loving! And here is this Smooth Stone dude crying about the Israeli evacuation of the Gaza Strip that Prezident Bush has endorsed yet he humps the stump for Bush! I've been scratching my head for days. Of course, I've found myself in a mild state of shock everytime I come across a poor, hardworking Native American who voted for Bush ....Stereotyping folk gets all of us nowhere.

13. Oh please.
What "antisemitic overtones?" Yes, I hate jews - that's why I live in Brooklyn - there are no jews there. What an idiotic post.

Actually there are 10 times as many jewish New Yorkers who are left of center- there's no "balance."

Right wing jews were an anomaly - but increasingly less so. That's the point. Not some antisemitic bogeyman.

"Enough said."

23. hmmm....
looks like I touched a nerve there. I was too polite to call your original post "idiotic" so I'll just call it misguided, and say that pointing out one's religion in a critique of their politics is, well... idiotic. Ooops.

As far as bringing up that you live in Brooklyn... are you trying to say that everyone who lives in Brooklyn bears no ill will or prejudice against any other racial, religious or ethnic group? So living in a place like Brooklyn is evidence that one is bias-free and enlightened? I guess the tumult of the 80's never happened and Yankel Rosenbaum is on a beach somewhere in Perth working on his tan.

You called me an antisemite because I called a vile man a jewish right winger. That's polite?

And by the way Rosenbaum was killed in 1991. It's 2005. Brooklyn has changed - come take a look.

You don't get the point. I suppose you have to know American Political History to get why right wing and jewish means something.

22. Actually, it does have something to do with it.
Not the fact that he is Jewish itself, of course. But rather his interpretation of what that should mean. And the Levin/SavageWeiner/Ron Silver types believe that unquestioning support of Likud Zionism and it's PNAC derivative in the US government is required of them in the name of "supporting Israel". So in that sense it is a "Jewish thing" from their perspective. As distorted as that perspective might be.

Since you mentioned the Irish, the equivalent would be Bill O'Reilly openly shilling for the IRA on his radio show. Which he doesn't of course, but he was the first Irish-American talk radio guy I thought of.

24. I disagree.
Edited on Sat Aug-06-05 10:43 PM by I Have A Dream
His exact wording is "Another far right nutty jewish New York radio host -- who'd a thunk it?"

To me, this implies that it doesn't surprise him at all that there's yet another Jewish person like this, as though it's typical for Jewish people. Sorry, as I'm sure you know, Jewish people are much more likely to be progressive than conservative. There are going to be conservative Jewish people just as there are conservative people of all ethnicities and religions, but it's not because of their ethnicity or their religion that they're conservative.

If a conservative radio host is Catholic and is vehemently anti-choice, his/her being Catholic might have something to do with that particular view, but I wouldn't find it acceptable to describe him/her as "Another far right nutty Catholic radio host -- who'd a thunk it?". There are many non-Catholics who also believe the same thing. I don't think that it's inappropriate to discuss the fact that he/she is Catholic in reference to his/her views. It's the labeling that I find problematic.

25. The perception of anti-Semitism.
*You* seem to be defining Levin, et.al. as mouthpieces for the Israeli hard right and the PNACs. However, using the word Jewish without explaining what that specifically means *in this context*, is a racist remark and as a generalization is, by it's nature, false.

It *appears* that Clash's initial remark, because he gives it without clarification, implies that he, at least, resent Jews. Would he characterize Alan Keyes as another nutty, black commentator?

31. Allow me to present
another interpretation of the OP's meaning.

It is my understanding that a significant number of Jews has been traditionally associated with liberal, and even left-wing viewpoints in this country. My immediate impression of "who'd of thunk it" was an underlying surprise at a sort of cultural anomaly.

Of course, I could be wrong.

36. Sorry, but it does matter in terms of bias.
I've got a number of Jewish friends who are extremely progressive on all issues affecting American EXCEPT the ME. They actually support bombing Iran but they won't openly admit it and they get pissed when you point out the incongruity. To me that strongly implies that Jewish Americans tend to have split allegences when it comes to American policy in the ME. That strong possibility needs to be factored in when discussing the ME with Jews.
