Anybody live near Arlington National Cemetery?
I am sickened by this.

After reading about the actions of Rev. Fred Phelps Sr. and members of the Westboro Baptist Church, I was sickened too. I am only about 3 hours from where this happened.

It got me thinking that maybe those of us who live near where these "Christians" are planning their next freak show, could show up to frustrate their efforts however we can. Legally, of course.

These people are brazen enough to post their calendar of events.

3. I do, but I'm going to leave this one up to...
the "authorities." (I'm afraid I'd get into it with one them and that's the last thing any mourners need to be exposed to...) Hmm, wonder if the shitty DC media would be interested. Some DUers say don't call attention to Phelps, but these MFers need to be stopped. I don't think the vast majority of Americans would be too happy with this group - if they were ever made aware of them. That pic of the headstones with "Carcasses of God's Enemies" was absolutely despicable. You have to wonder how they got that way - full of so much hate.

5. Knowing people who have actually run into Phelps...
I have heard that he feeds off of anyone screaming at him, ao that is the wrong approach. Anger just keeps him going.

The best way to deal with him is to laugh your ass off. Apparently, being made fun of is the one thing he can't deal with, and he scoots to the next "event."

I've said it befopre, and I'll keep saying it-- I can't help wondering where his little band of merrymakers gets his support from. I wouldn't be a bit surprised if he got some from the rightwing so they can point to him and appear moderate, and also from the left, who can happily villify him.

He just seems too much like somebody's tool.

6. Interesting. I hadn't thought of funding from both sides.

I just want them to go away. What they do is just plain cruel.

You're on to something with the "laugh your ass off" approach. I've argued/debated/discussed 'til I'm blue in the face and nothing gets through to the wingnuts. I'm finding that ridicule does, however. Laughingly point out how manipulated/duped they are. May not change their votes, but it at least shuts them up.

4. They are seriously stupid people.
Either stupid or insane. No one in their correct mind would try to mess with people who are grieving over the death of a loved one, without fearing a major ass-kicking.
They (Phelps) might actually get by with it the first couple of times, due to the shock of their actions, but to continue on... and not expect an ass-kicking? They are either stupid or insane.

These people are traveling all over the country to disrupt funerals.
