Does anyone else feel completely compelled to drive to Crawford, too??? |
|
Hello everyone-
I see many exciting posts about Cindy Sheehan's courageous stand in Crawford. I have never attended a protest in my life--but I feel like I want to go to Texas and stand with Cindy and others--and make a stand against BushCo's Iraq.
For so many months, I've been depressed, sickened, angered and worried about what this administration is doing to our country and to our children's futures.
Crawford is an opportunity to DO SOMETHING. All I would have to do is stand and be present--and it would mean so much.
I like the idea of a peaceful protest near Bush's ranch--during a time when he's on vacation. He doesn't have the grandeur of DC to create a separation between himself and the public. He's on vacation--in the sticks. Right now...he's one of us. And I feel like he owes us ALL a damn good explanation for the Iraq war and the loss of life and billions of dollars down the drain.
I have such a strong desire to stand on Texas soil and to symbolically represent that I am tired...sick and tired of what's happening to America...and I want my damn country back. I want the pResident to hear reports that the crowd near Crawford has swelled to 1,000...5,000....25,0000, 75,000 and more. Bush is always insulated from protesters. I want him to know...and see...and feel that many Americans are heartbroken about what he has done to our beloved country.
I am in Iowa--and right now my husband and I are working out logistics. I really want to go. Are others here going as well?
I would probably just get on I-35, do the drive in 13 hours and look for the Crawford signs.
Am I nuts? Are others making the trip? Are others thinking about making the trip--but you have reservations about logistics, directions and where to go?
:)

My husband and I are thinking that next week, if she is still there, we will go down. You are close to us, we are in Kansas. I posted elsewhere about it. If you are interested then let me know. I simply can't get away this week, too many important obligations but next week I can cancel my meetings and hopefully get someone to take care of the horses.

5. I'm in CO, I'm off next week and really feel I need to this... |
|
I'm a nurse who manages a busy Ambulatory care clinic, and took the week off to decompress and catch up on mundane domestic tasks.
However, I'm feeling the same as you, especially after seeing Ms. Sheehan on CNN's Late Edition today.
Only thing, I haven't mentioned this to my family. (husband and teen age daughter).
I do love road trips and I have a reliable vehicle. Waco looks like the closest town with hotel accommodations.
So, yeah, I know what you're saying. MKJ

A straight shot down I-35 from where I am in Oklahoma. For some reason I feel a great need to be there. It will have to be next week. It looks like it's right outside of Waco. Motel/hotel rooms are probably not too expensive.

31. You know, my money has been chronically tight since my husband lost |
|
his job about 4 years ago, and was never able to find anything comparable.(hi tech, telecommunications)
However, he just started working again in the medical field. He was an Army veteran orthopedic tech and the demand is so great he found a job, even though he's been out for years.
However, we have a huge hole to dig out of, so not a lot of discretionary income.
I may take someone up on reimbursement, if it comes to that. However, I don't want to take anything up front.
Right now, I'm just working on rearranging my daughter's school registration.
My elderly mom has a Dr's appt on 8/9, in the afternoon,(I'll be taking her) and then after that, I plan to hit the road.
Thanks for your generous offer and I will keep everyone posted. MKJ

If there is a formal DU fund to which I can submit receipts, I would love to access it. My husband is fine with me traveling there, but a little skittish about our funds.
I'm sure I'm not the only one in this situation. But, I will go, no matter what.
BTW, hubby reminds me: 1. I need to be frugal when I'm out there. 2. He doesn't know if he has funds to bail me out if I'm arrested. LOL.
I'm so excited to go, I wish it was tomorrow instead of Tues. afternoon.
Thanks again to all the generous and supportive DU'ers here. MKJ

Maybe if we all work out our schedules, we could carpool.
I agree with your sentiments about Bush. What a bonus to have thousands gather in Crawford. We need to be seen and heard!
Let's keep in contact...we can continue to brainstorm and discuss the possibility of making the trip--if you like!
