OH-Sen: Paul Hackett to consider DeWine challenge!!
From Politics1: Iraq War veteran and attorney Paul Hackett (D) -- fresh off his surprisingly narrow loss in the CD-2 special election -- acknowledges that the '06 US Senate race against incumbent Mike DeWine (R) is a possibility. Hackett is also considering a rematch against new Congresswoman Jean Schmidt (R) next year. Hackett captured 48% in the heavily Republican CD-2 race -- a district in which no Democrat had broken the 40% mark in years (Kerry won just 35% there last year). Congressman Ted Strickland (D) -- the leading Democrat in next year's open gubernatorial contest -- said he would support Hackett if Congressman Sherrod Brown and Tim Ryan both pass on the race.

4. I'd rather see Hackett try again for the Congressional seat. . .
because if the piece below means anything, trade and jobs will be the big issues in Ohio - and Sherrod Brown apparently led the opposition to CAFTA. Brown may be a better choice to challenge DeWine - he has experience dealing with Capitol Hill.

7. That sounds like good advice
Meantime, Hackett can really shake things up while he ponders his decision. Given how bad things are going for W, his coattails are pretty tattered. Hackett already has a good chance against Schmidt since he probably won this election. Something has got to be done about the voting machines.

8. Sort of throwing his hat in the Senatorial ring can't hurt his
profile, though, you know? I think it just increases awareness of who he is, and that's a good thing regardless of which spot he seeks.

11. Now that is a most excellent development.
Cover the whole state and those who wished they could have voted in OH-2 may have a chance to vote for Hackett! He's now an official hard driving political Democratic rock star from Ohio!:applause:
