MLK buttons at a Republican State Fair booth -- WTF?!
What the hell do they think they're doing, having a MLK Jr. button to sell that says "The Dream is Alive."

How fucking stupid do they think your average black person is? I was SO offended after all their suppression antics that they would dare have MLK buttons.

But then someone at our Dem booth (first time having one at the Fair on an off election year, btw. Yea us!) suggested that it might have been the idea of a black Republican or something. Does that make it any better?

Or is my lilly white self over-reacting?

1. If you can't crush it, corrupt it. If you can't corrupt it... co-opt it.

3. I suppose that's a Southern Repub thing, now that you mention it
Do Southern Dems identify with it at all?

Hypocrits, but we knew that, didn't we.

6. These guys always situate themselves by a flag booth
and a National Guard booth. They had the original 2000 era pictures of Bush and Cheney nice and big. Tshirts, polo shirts, buttons, flags, and on and on.

We had an informational booth with printouts about the Governor and the Senator who are running in 2006, plus homemade displays for some of the prominent Dems. No buttons, no bumperstickers, nothing to sell. We could only afford an info booth, but like I said, they tell me that they normally didn't even have that on an off election year. So this is a first.

Some people were coming up to us and saying "THANK GOD you're here!" Made me feel good. I'm putting in three shifts. Getting expensive, I wish they'd have coughed up free fair tickets, but no. So I guess it's my donation. So they won't be getting any more out of me til tax time again.

14. I'd pay $5 to have my picture taken with a Republican wearing
an MLK button.

I'd make them hold up a sign saying "I'm a neocon," though, as proof.

7. No ... This is their next plan of attack ...
They have a VERY clear agenda of trying to take a small fraction of black votes away from the D ticket ... Coyers was on Al Fraken and said it ...

They are specifically targeting certain groups of inner city black people, in areas they have determined in terms of strategy and vote counts, with programs and the such, and are cozying up to reverands and the such, community leaders who they can try to buy out to get their groups votes ...

8. So do we preempt the attack, or will we let them do it?
Of course the Republicans are going after black and Hispanic voters. It's Politics 101: look for wedge issues that splinter your opponent's base. As I've argued on many other threads, school choice has this potential. Inner city black parents are among the strongest supporters of school choice and vouchers. We are making a profound strategic mistake in letting the Republicans monopolize this issue.

9. New Republican talking points
The Repubs are starting to claim that the Democratic Party takes minority votes for granted and that support for social programs is "racist" because "it assumes minorities can't take care of themselves without government assistance." They are trying to use these memes to win minority votes, but their target audience is, by and large, too smart to buy into it.

10. Funny this comes up now.....
All of the right wingers in my chatroom the last two weeks have been claiming that the civil rights act of 1964 was Republican. "It came from kennedy and the republicans". Definately something they have heard on Talk radio. They are desperate for the black vote, which they aint gonna get

13. This message has just started "trickling down"
from wherever the freeps get their memes. Expect to see more and more of it; they think this is a sure-win strategy.

12. That's what I think as well
Telling a guy without a job that they don't have a job because of Democrat social programs just isn't even logical.

I loved the woman who spoke to Wisconsin Dems during the election who said she was looking for BMW's in her neighborhood -- Black Men Working.

I don't see job programs coming out of the Repubs, do you? In fact, many social programs are being cut.

And here in Milwaukee, the murder rate is up alarmingly. We're setting a record they say. Gee. I wonder why. Any bets on whether or not that number is going to go up instead of down while Bush is president?

And what about all those cops on the street that he cut out of spite for Clinton and Kerry, who designed the program in the first place.

Republicans, the law and order party, riiiiiiight.

15. LOL, MLK, Jr. was a Democrat
MLK was put in jail in 1960 and sentenced to 4 months in prison until JFK (who was still only a Senator) and RFK after intervend and King got out. Vice-President Nixon did nothing and MLK switched parties.
