The Troop Reduction
After hearing a story a few days ago I contend that the troop reduction will not be a real troop reduction. While the notion of a troop reduction is getting major news coverage another story may not be getting as much coverage. A few days ago I heard on Democracy Now that the Bush Administration in sending more troops to Iraq. It seems like these troop will be there on a temporary basis for the drafting of the Constitution. Has anyone seen this story getting major coverage from the news media? I ask this question in that my theory is that the Bush Administration will quitely increase the number of troops in Iraq and then later take the troops that were used to increase the number out of Iraq with much fanfare. That way Bush can say that the troop level was reduced even if it really was not reduced. In addition, it could be that the troop reduction story was just used so that people would not pay attention the the fact that more troops were being sent to Iraq.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Before the Pentagon begins reducing troop levels in Iraq next year it probably will increase them this fall to provide extra security for a planned October referendum and a December election, a Pentagon official said Monday.

Lawrence Di Rita, spokesman for Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld, noted that troop levels were raised last January during Iraq's first elections, and then returned to the current level of about 138,000 several weeks later.

2. Of course.....you are likely correct....
Politics is Bush's war.....the soldiers are his pawns, and the media will accomodate. You can count on it!
