Veterans, Boots on the ground in Crawford
For any vets, or friends of vets going out to Crawford, consider taking an old pair of combat boots to leave on Prairie Chapel Road. It would be a nice visual reminder of those we have lost, make a nice photo-op for the lazy press and remind Bush that we won't forget the brothers, sisters, husbands, wives, sons and daughters who have served bravely and won't be coming home.

I'll be going out there and taking mine, plus dropping off what supplies I can. The Secret Service or local cops may just sweep them up, but even then it sends a message.

1. 1800 pairs of boots spaced only three feet apart is over a mile long.
Wouldn't THAT say something.

4. Especially poignant and enraging if they have to set boots in the ditch
to abide by the local rules of the road.

14. since the cops have already established people can't walk on the road
you can bet they'll prohibit the boots - let's see a bunch of boards laid down in those ditches, lined with boots.

all the folks to stand on ... but they'd sure do for the boots

8. Thanks, help by spreading the idea...
I was going to go anyway, but this seemed like a good idea. Every time I saw pictures of that "empty boots" traveling War Memorial I almost busted out bawling. I'm not exactly the emotional type either. Bush and his enablers have made me so angry. I'll keep doing what I can. Unlike Bush, I work for a living so I can't take weeks off but I can take needful things up there. I have the list.

28. Dennis Kyne wears the boots
Dennis, among other veterans, are watching over Cindy like angels. Let us all send them encouragement and support!

"Dennis notes that the second most painful lesson of serving his country in war, was coming home to an uninformed citizenry."

Dennis is a brave soul. I will never forget on the streets of the French Quarter during a demonstration when a republican bystander decided to communicate his displeasure with our position on the war. Immediately Dennis approached this man and engaged him in a powerfully loud conversation about 1 inch from his face. The true patriot silenced the boistrous tourist who suddenly realized that he was no longer in Kansas. We need more ex-drill seargents on our side.

29. It's too bad I can't afford to go
we've got enough pairs of old combat boots here. Black, tan, take your pick. My husband just can't seem to throw them in the garbage when they wear out so they sit in a box in the basement. (Don't ask me why) He just recently got all new uniforms and boots so there are now more old ones in the pile.

41. Pictures from Crawford post 1
Edited on Wed Aug-10-05 08:45 PM by bonzotex
It’s hard to describe my impressions of Camp Casey and Cindy Sheehan’s protest vigil. The people there are true patriots. They real Americans who love their country and their fellow American’s deeply. They are camping in wet ditches because we can’t seem to get our President’s attention in any normal way. They are making huge sacrifices to be there. It was an honor for this Veteran to support them even a little.
Cindy Sheehan is a real American. The foaming mouth blowhards trying to slime her are not fit to shine her shoes.
Ok on with the pics!

Groceries from a Democratic Undergrounder

The historical marker in front of a muddy field between the rail road track and the Crawford Peace house. The existence of this marker apparently making the vacant lot off limits to parking and camping.

The general Store downtown. Yes that is a giant concrete Decalogue.

What the ground looks like as of 8/10/05. This is a nice level spot. The majority of parking and camping spots at the protest site would be best described as roadside ditches.

Patriotic Americans!

43. Thank you
Those are great pictures ~

I love the boots on the ground idea ~ wish I get there but will do whatever I can to help ~ I'm in NY. Will tell everyone I know, email them etc.

I read in another thread that truckers are going to Crawford to support Cindy and that at 12.00 noon each day they will blow their horns ~ imagine every car across the country who supports her blowing their horn each day until it is so loud, even the Coward in Texas couldn't avoid it.

DUers are so wonderful ~

I hope this country never again elects a man who went AWOL when his country needed him. I also hope that someday he will have to answer for that. I believe the statute of limitations is 40 years for desertion. There's still time to get him under oath to answer the questions he has never answered ~
