Hillary "challenger" flips on late term abortion to appease new RW masters
I mean, after getting a hundred percent score from NARAL to win her past elections, she flip flops to take the tiniest tiny step in order to appease her new right wing fundraisers and the Hate Clinton crowd "after researching and reflecting". What, no prayer before flopping? What a loser. Clinton's going to beat her like a rug.

Jeanine F. Pirro, the new Republican challenger for Hillary Rodham Clinton's Senate seat, said yesterday that she opposed the procedure that critics call partial-birth abortion, after taking a muddier stance on the issue four years ago.

Ms. Pirro, a favorite of moderate Republicans whose new position will probably help her woo the conservative voters she needs, said in an interview that she decided to oppose the procedure - except to protect the life of the woman- after researching and reflecting on the issue.

While many Democrats, including Mrs. Clinton, support late-term abortion to protect the health of the woman, some Republicans -Ms. Pirro now among them - support the procedure only to protect the life of the woman, with life being a far narrower distinction than health in the eyes of abortion-rights groups.

"On Day 1 as a candidate for the U. S. Senate, Jeanine Pirro is running away from her past in order to garner the support of Mike Long and the Conservative Party," Mr. Jaffe said, referring to the chairman of the party. "It's a disturbing and desperate attempt to win over the far right of the Republican Party, and it won't fool New Yorkers."

Jeanine Pirro Seeks Re-election as District Attorney
District Attorncy Jeanine Pirro is completing her first term in office. A Republican she was known to be pro-choice when she was still an assistant district attorney under her predecessor.

As district attorney, Pirro has acted swiftly to address the blockade of abortion facilities in Westchester by those who seek to interfere with a woman's right to medical services and a doctor's right to provide them. In prosecuting individuals responsible for violating the law, she instituted a program of securing permanent orders of protection as a condition of sentence. This coordinated approach involving the district attorney's office, community groups including WCLA, and law enforcement has effectively curtailed a previously volatile situation

Pirro has lobbied the state legislature to pass the Clinic Access Bill, a much-needed law to increase penalties for blockading abortion clinics. It is a law that would help communities such as Dobbs Ferry, which has spent many thousands of tax dollars to prosecute offenders.

Pirro's opponent, Democrat JoAnn Naughton, is also pro-choice. However, WCLA has thrown its support to Jeanine Pirro in recognition of her deeds as district attorney in protecting abortion clinics.

3. No - they dropped her in '01 for good reason..

Tony Castro for District Attorney
Tony Castro is WCLA’s choice for Westchester District Attorney. He unequivocally supports a woman’s right to choose abortion and understands the reproductive health issues that are on the horizon. Castro has demonstrated a thorough knowledge of the current issues and threats to reproductive rights.

Before becoming a candidate for District Attorney, Castro was a prosecutor with the Bronx District Attorney’s office for 14 years. While there, he served as Deputy Bureau Chief in charge of Homicide Investigations and supervised the Grand Jury Evaluation Bureau. Many assistant prosecutors were answerable to him.

To be considered for endorsement, candidates must respond to a comprehensive questionnaire detailing their views on the many issues that comprise “abortion rights.” It isn’t enough to say “I’m pro-choice”; candidates must show a familiarity with relevant legislation and court decisions.

Unlike other organizations, incumbents receive the same scrutiny as challengers. Jeanine Pirro, the incumbent DA, lost the support of WCLA after she submitted a questionnaire with significant omissions and responses contrary to WCLA’s position. In a follow-up phone discussion with WCLA, Pirro demonstrated a surprising lack of knowledge regarding serious threats to access to the full range of reproductive health care. For example, Pirro hand-wrote “I don’t know” instead of answering YES or NO on an eight-part question based upon the so-called partial-birth abortion ban, which was struck down by the U.S. Supreme Court.

In her questionnaire, Pirro stated that she did not oppose hospital mergers which would result in the loss of reproductive health services. The mergers of religious and nonsectarian hospitals are of tremendous concern to family planning advocates in New York State since religious hospitals, usually Catholic, when partnering with nonsectarian hospitals, seek to eliminate abortion and family planning services (including tubal ligation) from the roster of provided medical services.

In discussion, Pirro showed some recognition of the issue, but not the understanding that would be expected of someone who expresses a strong feeling about women’s rights in this area. WCLA was disheartened that this incumbent was so ill-informed about issues that have been covered in the press and previous issues of Pro-Choice – yet seeks the endorsement of the Westchester Coalition for Legal Abortion .

7. "I dont' know". That's a nuanced position, all right.

Pretty well reasoned statement. I like WCLA.

She is an arrogant hack with a big mouth. I don't believe for one minute that she didn't know about the tax returns.
