Pentagon announces 9/11 concert: Linking the day with the war in Iraq?
Pentagon announces September 11 concert
Washington
August 10, 2005 - 1:36PM

http://www.theage.com.au/news/world/pentagon-announces-september-11-concert/2005/08/10/1123353364623.html?oneclick=true

The Pentagon would hold a massive march and country music concert to mark the fourth anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks, US Defence Secretary Donald Rumsfeld said in an announcement tucked into an Iraq war briefing today.

"This year the Department of Defence will initiate an America Supports Your Freedom Walk," Rumsfeld said, adding that the march would remind people of "the sacrifices of this generation and of each previous generation".

The march will start at the Pentagon, where nearly 200 people died on September 11, 2001, and end at the National Mall with a show by country star Clint Black.

Word of the event startled some observers. "I've never heard of such a thing," said John Pike, who has been a defence analyst in Washington for 25 years and runs GlobalSecurity.org. The news also reignited debate and anger over linking September 11 with the war in Iraq. "That piece of it is disturbing since we all know now there was no connection," said Paul Rieckhoff, an Iraq veteran who heads Operation Truth, an anti-administration military booster.

11. You watch, it'll happen. The original nazis celebrated the
"Tag der Machtergreifung" (the day they seized power) also.

20. In a way, its already started.
They have no morals or shame. Its funny, when I see Rice and Rumsfeld, I think of Ribbontrop and Goering.

Thank you for that observation. Something not remembered from what little I know of the history. This is a factoid I will gladly file away for future reference

3. When is the last time (outside of Nazi Germany) that a federal
agency - a cabinet level secretariat - organized a "march"? And a country music extravaganza!? :puke:

6. "country music concert" Holy shit.
:puke::puke::puke::puke::puke:

One of the reasons I got out of the service (after 8 years) was I got tired of them playing that goddam Lee Greenwood proud-to-be-an-American song at every fucking event. :eyes:

Edited on Wed Aug-10-05 07:45 AM by wishlist
I guess taxpayers will foot the bill for this military recruitment and PR event? Memorial events and concerts are fine, but the Pentagon is crossing the line if they are producing a major media event serving to link 9/11 with support for the war in Iraq.

10. We need to organize for this event...
Yeah, some goosestepping on the way to the mall would be very appropriate. With a little exaggeration, we can reflect the gingoism of this event.

Geez. A walk and a party? Reminds me of the time I went out to replace the silk flowers on my mom's grave. Someone buried nearby had flowers, flags and freaking balloons tied to their marker (no, it wasn't a kid). The manager of the cemetery had to ask the family of that person to "tone it down".

12. There should certainly be a demonstration.
Nothing against a subdued event (even though I'd consider it hypocrisy since I'm convinced they are who's behind 9/11) but a MARCH, for Chrissake!

Happy 9/11, everybody!

15. Will there B thousand of burning torches?
flood lights on gigantic, fluttering-in-the-breeze pictures of chimpy, unca dick, rummy & kindasleazy for all 2 admire & worship? will there B thousands of tanks & humvees, missiles on flatbeds rolling thru the streets? Will we finally get a new salute or patriot oaths to sign?

I loathe these neo-kon kriminals.

22. I personally don't have a problem with county music,
but it does seem that it attracts a disproportionate number of fucking idiots.

I don't listen to it now. The old stuff was better than this pseudo-country they play now.

23. It's A Wonder They Didn't Decide To Postpone Until...
September 24th!! Everybody, let's get behind this march. If I can't get a ride out of Sarasota, I will go to Tampa to see what's up.

Right now, Sarasota is still organizing, the bus costs $4,000.00! I want to be there for all 3 days, but will settle for the one!

I don't know how to pick up all these great pictures and add-ons, sure wish I could. I have many sent to me, but just am glad so many of you are doing such a great job!
