Bob Woodward predicts 2008 Presidential Election: Hillary vs. Dick Cheney
http://www.aspentimes.com/article/20050810/NEWS/108100041

Noted journalist Bob Woodward offered his insights on topics ranging from Nixon to Bush, current political issues and the role of journalism during a speech to an overflow crowd at Paepcke Auditorium on Tuesday night.

Not once did he mention Mark Felt, the former FBI assistant director nicknamed "Deep Throat" who was Woodward's key anonymous source in uncovering the Watergate scandal. Woodward's latest book chronicles the story of "Deep Throat," but the audience members clearly had more current issues on their minds.

Woodward's half-hour talk, punctuated several times by well-received jokes, was followed by 11 questions from the audience. He theorized that Hillary Clinton would earn the Democratic nomination in 2008 and would run against Dick Cheney, and he rejected the likelihood of a third party being a threat to Democrats and Republicans. He discounted the fear that Supreme Court nominee John Roberts would help overturn abortion rights if elected to the bench.

He spoke of his continuing faith in the press, which depends on owners who support their newsrooms and reporters who are driven to get to the truth. Decrying the impatience of today's journalism, with its fixation on up-to-the-minute updates, Woodward said that news services should stick to their responsibility of getting all the facts.

1. Bob Woodward's completely out of touch with
MY opinion.

I was going to say "he's lost it" or "he's full of it." I don't think either of those will get the nomination. But who knows more about politics: Me or Woodward?

2. Wow. Shocking he could be that obtuse.
Or maybe not.
I wouldn't rule out Hillary as the Dem. nominee, though I don't think it's likely.

But Dick Cheney? PUH-leeze!

3. If Darth Cheney Runs, It Will Only Be If He Knows For Certain He'll Win
If you get my drift. That will be the absolute signal to me that they do indeed have elections in this country neatly tied up and rigged thoroughly.

6. Hillary wins by a landslide.
Cheney's poll numbers are slightly worse than the numbers for oral herpes. Who the hell would actually vote for Dr. Evil?

8. Woodward is an INSIDER with this WH. He is now writing a book on the Bush
second term so the one thing I wouldn't dismiss is the idea that perhaps Cheney will run. I don't know why Bob thinks that but he is around Dickie and Georgie frequently so

10. I won't hold Helen Thomas to her pledge if DarthCheney runs
(She said she'd kill herself if he did.)

I hope he DOES run, because ANY Democrat can beat such an unattractive, negative, fear-mongering automaton of a candidate.

20. The GOP and RNC won't let Cheney have the nomination
There would be too much paranoia that Cheney could suffer a heart attack while on the campaign trail right before the election, thereby throwing the party into chaos and giving an upper-hand to whomever the Democrats have nominated.

22. Cheney couldn't campaign a week before his health forced him to quit.
He couldn't keep up with that pace, let alone be president.

Cheney? Never, for a lot of reasons.

23. He's been inside the beltway for too long
Lost his edge and now is just another out-of-touch insider.

Years ago, when the green Clintons first came to town, Hillary unknowinging, naively revealed that they had received mysterious communications offering to negotiate future elections.

None of this, the suggestion that it all is a set-up, scratch-my-back style, wouldn't surprise me in the least.

24. It's like eating potato chips
You can't eat just one. Dick has grown fond of being the President these last few years and another two terms would be about right for his massive ego.

The most telling part of Bob Woodward's piece, besides reminding me that Bob Woodward is the perfect "Renfield" for these vampires, is that Cheney is floating the idea. How much more proof do we need to demand fair, OPEN and honest elections? The Dickster knows he can steal the elections and he'll be damned (literally)if gives up power. Too risky!

25. Not likely - he'll need the bad ticker to avoid
indictments for his current crimes.

He can't play the bad heart card too many times.

26. More pundit pap
for mass digestion!

The more they talk about 2008, the more the set up the field for manipulation.

I actually like Hillary fine as a Senator from New York. However, the more I hear talk of a foregone Hillary run in 2008, the less I like her. Maybe that's the plan?
