5. Yes. He's got "it."
Seriously. He's our fucking savior. Even more than Obama or Dean.

LOL I'm laughing but I'm serious.

14. I dont "get" Obama. Too polished for a neophyte, IMHO.
At a time when we need Dean's and Hacketts, Obama seems like a politician.

He's been a serious disappointment. No leadership, all personality.

22. I don't get the disappointment over Obama
His voting record has been excellent with the exception of voting for Condi for state. He has made some excellent speeches outlining the Democratic Party's principles and the need for progressive politics (see his recent commencement address: http://www.knox.edu/x9803.xml), etc.

If you expected him to be out in front of the cameras all day making headlines as a freshman senator - that's not how incoming senators act. They lie low and tend to their constituents for a few years. Obama could have been on any Sunday talk show he wanted. He's turned them down to focus on bread-and-butter concerns.

Now, that said, I'm very excited about Hackett. I do hope he runs for the senate. I think Tim Ryan is excellent too but he might as well wait till '10, given his youth. The problem is Hackett may not have another opportunity, whereas Ryan WILL later on.

10. I agree! He is awesome for someone who is not
a "professional politician" as he called it.

Well, we don't need MORE professional politicians, Mr. Hackett, since those professionals in Washington are not serving the American citizens' needs!

I hope he runs for Senate. :)

2. Yes he is. I hope he's just playing when he said he didn't know
if he was ever going to run for an office again! He may not be a professional poolitician, but he's sure already learned not to close any doors when asked!

I like his ideas, and I think the Dem politicians aught to pay attention!

I don't know if they post videos of previous shows on the MSNBC site or not. You could also chock there.

19. If he is going to run,
he shouldn't wait too long to make a decision (like other folks did, to their and our cost).

He's got the big mo now. And I suspect that he would be able to raise money now too.

And screw most of that "professional advice".

27. It's been a week, give the guy a little time to recover
He hasn't really had any time off in over a year. He was in Iraq for seven months then pretty much the day he came back his friend convinced him to run for congress and he kicked off his campaign. It's better that he take a little time to recover, not to mention decide if this is really what he wants to do.

30. Well,
Edited on Wed Aug-10-05 10:19 PM by necso
"shouldn't wait too long" could mean deciding tomorrow, some weeks from now, or as might maximize the impact of media-exposure (early, overall amount of, calendar length of, whatever). (In this case, there appears to be free, ongoing, election-related (event-related) media exposure, which may go away after a time. The "flow" of this coverage might be worth taking into consideration as part of the timing decision.)

Decisions about timing are for those in control to make, based on what they see in the field (etc) -- but certain elements of timing center on things outside of one's (and sometimes even anyone's) control -- and exist independent of anyone's wishes.

And I suspect that "go-slow" advice has torpedoed other outsider candidacies (and some within recent, bitter memory).

Personally, moreover, I am inclined to see the matter as being more duty than choice.

Besides, you expect the most out of your best fighters. And giving them a little encouragement and advice (in your own way) isn't entirely out of line.

21. Hackett's Taking From the Wes Clark Playbook
which tells you something about the outcome in 2008 if Wes is our nominee. Straight talk, expose Bush for the lying chickenhawk he is, military hero, southerner with faith, leadership, diplomatic background, trash Swift Boat Liars, etc. That is the formula.

34. Seeing that he was in the primary for only a few months,
it's hard to talk of a Wes Clark playbook yet. Possibly in 2008, he will run following a Hackett playbook.

32. I know this has been posted
elsewhere before but I think it bears repeating when Paul Hackett slams rush limbaugh outta the park.

"Paul Hackett shames Rush Limbaugh
by BobcatJH

Appearing on today's edition of "The Ed Schultz Show," Paul Hackett made several stand-out statements (mp3 file). My favorite came in reference to his being attacked by Rush Limbaugh:
That's typical for that fatass drug addict to come up with something like that. There's a guy ... I didn't hear this, but actually when I was on drill this weekend, I've got to tell you, he lost a lot of Republican supporters with his comments. Because they were coming up to me, telling me, "I can't believe he said that! Besides that, he called you a soldier. He doesn't know the difference between a soldier and a marine!"

36. He was excellent- straight talking with no mincing words or backing down
This was the first time I had seen him too. He said we should leave Iraq since there is civil war going on in Iraq and our soldiers should not have to be nation building or trying to police their streets.

I'm impressed. He was able to be straightforward and blunt without putting his foot in his mouth or giving the other side any ammunition.
