"Republicans specialize in taking hope away"...Dean in San Antonio
What a unique way to put it, but that is just what the hell they have been doing for years now. They do it well. They do it on purpose. They enjoy it. It is an evil thing.

Not drowning, waving: Dean Buoying Party Spirits

"We need to be more disciplined," Dean said of his party's strategy. "If we don't step up for what we believe in we won't win elections. Some people think the best way to win is to mimic Republicans. But we are Democrats because we believe in social and economic justice."

Dean also challenged Bush, who is vacationing all month in Crawford, to oust Karl Rove from his White House post over the leak of a CIA agent's name.

"Mr. President, keep your word. Send Karl Rove back to Texas."

"No!!!!" the crowd yelled.

"OK," Dean laughed. "Somewhere else!"

"Iraq!" •

1. Okay, that's too funny!
I have to agree with the audience, PLEASE send KKKarl ANYWHERE but Texas! My God, haven't we suffered enough with Junior and his family here?! I can just hear the panicked tone in the voices that all screamed, "No!!!!" I'm with THEM!

3. Dean hit the nail on the head
Republicans specialize in taking away hope. I know my outlook is much more grim than five years ago. :(

Someday things will be different.

5. The sad part is the pleasure they take in doing it.
They don't realize they will be affected as well when taxes go up for the middle class, as insurance costs rise. Their sons and daughters will die in these wars for oil or empire as well...take your pick for the reason.

9. They're fixated on the past, no wonder they can't see the future
The sheer short-sightedness of many reactionaries is astounding. They're so hell-bent on keeping their little pile and making more right now that they just can't see the long-term reality.

To sweep away social programs isn't going to somehow perfect mankind and get people to be more responsible; people are what they are. This kind of perfectibility crap is the same thing that makes Communism unworkable on a large scale. The only thing that'll be accomplished by getting rid of social programs is to create more human failures, and the cost to society at large is too great.

(It's also just WRONG, but arguments based on morality don't work on conservatives...)

The glee they exhibit when they can show that they're better than others is despicable, and yet it goes unmentioned.

11. They have been brainwashed so long about 'liberals".
They have no sense that they are brainwashed. It has been done so completely, they are not even aware of the irony of their voting and talking against their own interests.

7. That is so prophetic....
They do take hope away. Look at America today compared to just 5 years ago. Even the Repubs, if theywere honest with themselves, would see what their Party has done to our nation. They continue to be in denial. They don't have the courage or honesty to admit they were wrong.

8. YES, Dean!..
"But Dean's unabashed, occasionally abrasive tone, while energizing the party's young and disenfranchised voters, clashed with the Democratic gentry. So the Dems got John Kerry. And America got George W. Bush. Again. On this trip to San Antonio for the Democratic Hispanic Leadership Summit, Dean, now the party's national chairman, had dialed down his decibel level, but still showed signs of his presidential fire: "People say the last election was about moral values; it wasn't. It's a moral value to tell the truth if you're the president of the United States. It is not a moral value to take golf trips paid for by lobbyists. It is not a moral value to pay journalists to write nice stories about you. It is not a moral value to withhold information about mercury poisoning so you can put it in the air. It is not a moral value to send men and women to Iraq to die without telling parents why they're there."

12. reminds me of the joke
The Democrat's job is to remind people that life isn't fair.

The Republican's job is to make sure that life isn't fair.

20. But I lurk a lot....
I have been posting, you have just missed them thats all. I have a tendency to hang out in LBN, although I have been visiting GD: Politics more frequently, here lately.

I am usually to tired to post, this heat is a killer, seeing how I work outside mainly. I have a tendency to make mistakes when posting if I am to exhausted. I like to be at my best, I have made some real blunders and have made an ass of my self with my senses dulled. I like to be on my toes especially with a pseudonym like mine. It has a tendency to draw the attention of lurking trolls or even challenges from DU'ers that are not familiar with my posts, its kinda like holding onto a lightning rod during stormy weather.

So I am selective about which ones I want to get involved with.

Always look forward to your posts, they usually produce a smile on my face.

See ya round the forums!:hi:

23. Where would the fun be in that?
I remember when I became a registered Democrat, I had already switched long before in my mind. I was posting here on DU but had not changed my affiliation yet. I was checking out the forums and decided I liked what I saw, many welcomed me, and saw that I was honestly fed up with what was happening to the Republican Party. Fast forward, it only took a couple of months of encouragement here before I made the switch. When I announced I had re registered as a Democrat on DU, I asked if they thought I should get a new pseudonym. Some suggested that I leave it as it was, as a way of thumbing my nose to the party.I thought yes, that is damn fine Idea, so when trolls come over they will see that they are loosing people. So it stuck and here I am today, attracting lightning! Thats OK, cause I just love to send trolls down in Flames, its not even a challenge any more.

And listening to Sinead O'Conner on the "Majority Report" and she was saying how you never hear religious leaders or politicians talk about love anymore.
