Ohio Voters Sick and Tired of Rotten System—Will Reform by Ballot

This was also in the NYT. Well, it’s about time, isn’t it.

Ohio Election Activists Say Voters Fed Up

http://wireservice.wired.com/wired/story.asp?section=Breaking&storyId=1073958

By JOHN McCARTHY Associated Press Writer

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) -- Backers of three ballot issues to dramatically change Ohio elections said Tuesday that they are confident that voters are so sick of politics-as-usual that they will support the changes on Nov. 8.

Reform Ohio Now, a coalition of labor unions and Democrat-leaning activists, on Tuesday filed petitions with 521,000 signatures for each of three issues with Secretary of State Kenneth Blackwell, Ohio's chief elections official.

<snip>

Backers say Ohioans need to take more control of their elections because of the current investment scandal involving majority Republicans at the Statehouse and an elections system they see as flawed.

"We, the citizens, are supposed to drive the system, not the politicians," said Jan Fleming of Uptown Progressives, a Columbus community activist group. "Elected officials now choose the voters, rather than the other way around."

The backers need 322,000 valid signatures of registered voters, or 10 percent of the total vote in the 2002 election for governor. The petitions will be sent this week or early next week to their counties of origin to verify that the signatures match those of registered voters, Blackwell spokesman Carlo LoParo said. The counties will have about two weeks to verify them, he said.

2. Legal Dream Team to Investigate Political Corruption in Ohio – ALL Fraud
Legal Dream Team to Investigate Political Corruption in Ohio – ALL Fraud

Aside from RNC fear and loathing of DU’s 2004 ERD crew, here is a major reason they’re creating their “back fire.” They’re in terror of a real investigation of Ohio because….IT’S ALL ABOUT ELECTION FRAUD!

Scandal probers top-line diggers
They have rep for ignoring politics, getting to core
(referred to as the “legal dream team”

http://www.daytondailynews.com/localnews/content/localnews/daily/0808ohscandal.html

By Andrew Welsh-Huggins
Associated Press

COLUMBUS | One investigator nailed several officials working for the very governor who appointed him. Another sent a congressman to prison. Yet another prosecuted a notorious highway shooter.

The task force investigating Ohio's ballooning state government scandal is a dream team of prosecutors and police with a reputation for ignoring politics in the pursuit of wrongdoing.

<snip>

Noe is under state and federal investigation for his handling of a $50 million investment in state funds in rare coins and for allegations he illegally funneled campaign contributions to President Bush.
The task force is spread from Toledo to Cleveland to Columbus and involves county prosecutors, the state watchdog, U.S. attorneys, the FBI, the IRS and the Department of Justice's public integrity section.

Last year, Morford recommended a federal judge in Michigan toss out prominent terror verdicts against two North African immigrants, finding that prosecutors failed to turn over documents to the defense lawyers.

<snip>

Morford, 46, said his philosophy is sticking close to the evidence and letting politics go by the wayside.

What better way to celebrate Katherine Harris’s announcement for US Senate in Florida by this Classis

Winning the Election – The Republican Way: Racism, Theft and Fraud in Florida

http://www.gregpalast.com/detail.cfm?artid=217&row=2

Tuesday, April 22, 2003 by Liam Scheff, The Weekly Dig, Boston, MA
When future historians want to know what happened to America in 2000, they’ll read Greg Palast’s The Best Democracy Money Can Buy. The book follows the paper trail of perjury, deception and incompetence left by the Bush family, and the billionaires who fund them, as they trample through the world – from mining disaster cover-ups to the California energy scandal to the pre-9/11 intelligence black-out that let a handful of Saudi terrorists slip past the NSA, FBI and CIA.

The book also uncovers inside documents on the IMF and World Bank, Pat Robertson‘s unholy money-schemes, and the co-opted US media that won‘t report what the rest of the world gets on the front page.

The book opens with the crime that keeps on stealing – the 2000 presidential election. George Bush lost the popular election by 500,000 votes, but won the electoral vote by winning hotly contested Florida, the state that tipped the scales, and the state where his brother Jeb is governor. His tiny 500-vote win there was accompanied by a torrent of hanging chads and unhappy voters, who claimed their votes were stolen. Last week Palast came to Boston to promote the new edition of The Best Democracy… I asked him exactly what he uncovered.

<snip>

What really happened in Florida?Five months before the election, Florida Secretary of State Katherine Harris ordered the removal of 57,700 names from Florida’s voter rolls on grounds that they were felons. Voter rolls contain the names of all eligible, registered voters. If you’re not on the list, you don’t get to vote.

If you commit a felony in Florida, you lose your right to vote there, and you‘re “scrubbed” from the rolls. You become a non-citizen, like in the old Soviet Union. This is not the case in most other states; it’s an uncivilized vestige of the Deep South.

My office carefully went through the scrub list and discovered that at minimum, 90.2 percent of the people were completely innocent of any crime – except for being African American. We didn’t have to guess about that, because next to each voter’s name was their race.

State charges former mayor with vote fraud

Tuesday, August 02, 2005
By Laurence Hammack

The indictments allege voters were persuaded to cast illegal votes by absentee ballot.

GATE CITY - Charles Dougherty was charged Monday with running a campaign of fraud and deceit to win another term as mayor of Gate City.

Dougherty was indicted on 37 felony counts of voter fraud by a Scott County grand jury in the first charges to come from a lengthy investigation of a small-town election marred by allegations of corruption. The indictments allege voters, many of them elderly or prone to manipulation, were approached by the candidate and persuaded to cast illegal votes by absentee ballot.

Although Dougherty was re-elected mayor in May 2004 with a large number of absentee votes, he lost the job a few months later after his opponent, Mark Jenkins, challenged the results in court.

<snip>

Willie Mae Kilgore(mother of Republican candidate for Governor, Kilgore) has been accused in a separate lawsuit of running the registrar's office in a partisan way, and her role in the 2004 Gate City elections was cited recently when she was asked to resign by the candidate running against her other twin son, Del. Terry Kilgore, R-Scott County.

Many of the charges involve people who gave false reasons for voting by absentee ballot. Absentee voting is allowed in Virginia under certain circumstances, such as for people out of town on Election Day or unable to vote in person because of heath reasons. It is a felony to make a false representation on an absentee ballot application.
Critics of the absentee voting process in Virginia say it is easy for an unscrupulous candidate to persuade a voter in private to obtain absentee ballots under false pretenses.

6. Read the first paragraph and it sounds like Hackett in OH2nd SpecElectoin
OK, so there’s a little nepotism here but it’s the TRUTH, IS ALL. The first paragraph sounds familiar doesn’t it, kind of like Ohio District 2 and the stunning reversal at the last moment assuring a Republican victory.

The Unanswered Question: Who Really Won In 2004?

See this annotated TruthIsAll thread. It’s all in the numbers

According to the vote tabulators, in the 2004 presidential election George W. Bush won a stunning victory that defied all odds, particularly those applied by unbiased statisticians. He won despite trailing in most state and national polls. He won despite an approval rating of less than 50%, usually the death knell for an incumbent presidential candidate. He won despite trailing in the three National Exit Polls three timelines from 4pm to 12:22 am (13047 respondents) by a steady 48%-51%, miraculously winning the final exit poll (with only 613 additional respondents, totaling 13,660). This poll was “weighted” (altered) to meet the reported election result on the assumption that the reported result was accurate -- quite an assumption. The final poll showed a stunning reversal of the Kerry 51%-48% poll margin, which had been measured consistently all day by the same polling group: major news/networks and polling firm Edison-Mitofsky.

<snip>

In addition to the gender-based evidence cited above, TIA has shown that some weightings for the question “How did you vote in 2000” are mathematically impossible. For example, the final poll claims that 43% of all 2004 voters were former Bush 2000 voters. But 43% of 122.3 million, the number of votes in the 2004 presidential election, is 52.59 million, and Bush only got 50.46 million votes in 2000, approximately 1.75 million of them from voters who have since died. Therefore, Bush’s final poll exit poll numbers, WHICH WERE MATCHED TO THE VOTE, had to be off by 4 million votes.

The analysis also demonstrated that other voter statistics make it impossible for Bush to have won. Even if all Bush voters from 2000 showed up and voted for him, he still needed an additional 13 million votes. He didn’t get them from new voters and those who did not vote in 2000; those voters preferred Kerry by an almost 3-to-2 margin. Because of this, a Bush victory required that he must win a whopping 14% of Gore 2000 voters, all of whom had to return to vote in 2004. But Gore voters were angry; they came back to defeat Bush once again after having the election stolen from them.

Logical absurdities and inconsistencies in Election 2004 abound. The data, analysis, and narrative are available at (insert link) for open-minded individuals who want to form their own conclusions about “Stolen Election 2004.”

This work is just part of a comprehensive set of election fraud work and analysis provided by the dedicated voting rights activists in DemocraticUnderground.Com’s “2004: Election Results and Discussion” forum, a unique Net resource.
