Jeff Greenfield,on CNN, just compared WWII to Iraq
Edited on Fri Aug-12-05 07:11 AM by Feeney2
He said Cindy Sheehan can't change the opinion of the war because she lost a child and look how many mothers lost sons and daughters in WWII. That can't be a reason to change opinions on the line of lost sons. Sorry Jeff. WWII ain't Iraq. What a stretch to make a point. Another slam against Ms. Sheehan and not against Bush policy.

1. I heard that. It was such a disingenuous analysis...
...that it makes you wonder just exactly who was under Jeff's desk, while he was speaking.

6. What is with his idea that mother's can't speak for their sons?
He looks these days like he is just going through the motions. He used to have a little fire under him when he gave reports.

16. Because they are
Edited on Fri Aug-12-05 07:36 AM by libhill
arrogant ass hats who assume, maybe correctly, that the American people are simple minded morons who believe any thing we are told. But there's a hell of a lot of difference between the Axis war machine of World War Two, and the third or fourth rate power that Iraq is / was. Not to mention the fact that Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11. Nothing like using an aircraft carrier to knock over a peanut stand. I'm impressed.

17. Think of our Iraqi Blunder
As similar to Italy's humiliating mismanaged invasion of ethiopia. Our pompous imperialists have ruined their Big Plans in a bungled occupation of a backwards nation.

Rather than sweeping the planet clean of 'rougue states' and bullying all adversaries, current and future into client-state submission to the Great Hegemon, we have exposed our weaknesses for all to see, revealed out unilateralist plans, created new global alliances to thwart our efforts at world domination, and most unfortunately, set the stage for global conflict, rather than global cooperation, as we enter the peak oil crisis.

Bush is not Hitler. Bush is Mussolini.

10. Whenever anyone makes that comparison...
..i respond with "O.K. when is the draft coming? Why aren't people siging up in droves? When do we get asked to start rationing and conserving essential goods and services? When are we going to raise taxes? all those things happened in WW2 so let's get to it!"

18. Jeff is correct...
except that Cindy is more comparable to the mother of misled German soldier who was killed in WWII. And by Jeff's logic about as likely to succeed.

21. Right. Every war has dead mothers asking, and for some wars,
the answer is deeply disappointing.

Greenfield punted the issue of what the answer is for the Iraq war. He seems to think the answer doesns't matter. In my mind, just having the questoin out there leads to an unsatisfactory answer, as Bush gave in his field conference yesterday.

20. Cindy symbolizes the QUESTION OF WHETHER IT IS WORTH IT
Greenfield simply assumed that having the question out there, unanswered, isn't a problem. It is, because this ISN'T WWII.

If cindy were asking, please justify WWII to me, this would be a different issue.
