Is there any evidence to support Rumsfeld's claim
that new, more powerful IEDs are coming from Iran? Has anybody seen such evidence? On its face, his assertion doesn't make any sense at all. Why would Shi'a Iran give deadly high explosives to Sunni remnants of the Ba'athist regime they flim-flammed the Americans into overthrowing? I mean, Iran wom the battle of Iraq, hands down--why would they want to put weapons into the hands of people who might use them against their hand-picked Iraqi government officials? Show me the evidence!

uranium from Niger.

Dutton Contradicts U.S. on Iran-Iraq Ties

Dutton Contradicts U.S. on Iran-Iraq Ties By ROBERT BURNS, AP Military Writer
Fri Aug 5,12:35 PM ET

WASHINGTON - The commander of British-led forces in southeastern Iraq said Friday that concerns about Iranian efforts to influence events in Iraq are based more on speculation than on facts.

The remark by Maj. Gen. Jim B. Dutton of the British Royal Marines contrasted with criticisms of Iran by U.S. officials, including Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld, who have said repeatedly that Iran is interfering in Iraq's internal affairs.
...........................................
Dutton was asked what evidence he has seen of harmful Iranian involvement in Iraq since the fall of Baghdad in 2003.

"The question of Iranian involvement is always a difficult one because there's a lot of speculation about it and not many facts," Dutton said. He said, for example, that it is unclear whether Iran is moving weapons into Iraq.

Dutton said Iraqi authorities 10 days ago made a large seizure of illegal weapons on Route 6, which runs north from Basra to Amarah in Maysan province.

"We don't know exactly where that came from," he said. "We are keen to find out and investigations are ongoing. There have been suggestions that they could have come from Iran, but I certainly can't prove that."

this has been around for 10 days now. Save the link. I haven't seen any retraction from Dutton.

9. Someone should start a pool
as to how long it'll be before good ol' Skullface Rumsfailed breaks out this old chestnut: "As we know, there are known knowns. There are things we know we know. We also know there are known unknowns. That is to say we know there are some things we do not know. But there are also unknown unknowns, the ones we don't know we don't know."

In the meantime, we should all remember that "absence of evidence is not necessarily evidence of absence."* :sarcasm:

Rumsfeld's a lying bastard--I don't believe a word he says. It probably won't be long before Kindasleazy Rice comes out with "we don't want the smoking gun to be a mushroom cloud," either.

*another actual Rumsfeld quote.

10. There is absolutely no use in trying to determine the meaning
of any sounds that come out of the mouths of the Bush Thugs. If the sounds have any meaning it would be to advance their nefarious agenda.
