No Evidence Pentagon Knew of Atta, Panel Says
9/11 Probers Reject Claims on Lead Hijacker

By Dan Eggen
Washington Post Staff Writer
Saturday, August 13, 2005; Page A03

Investigators for the Sept. 11 commission have found no evidence to support allegations by a House Republican that lead hijacker Mohamed Atta was identified by a classified Pentagon program before the 2001 attacks, according to a commission statement issued last night.

Commission leaders Thomas H. Kean (R) and Lee H. Hamilton (D) said in the joint statement that panel staff members have found no documents or other witnesses to back up claims made by a U.S. Navy officer, who told the commission staff in July 2004 that he recalled seeing Atta's name and photograph on a chart prepared by another officer. Panel officials also said they have found no evidence to support similar claims made to reporters by a second person, a former defense intelligence official.

"None of the documents turned over to the commission mention Mohamed Atta or any of the other future hijackers," the commission statement said. "Nor do any of the staff notes on documents reviewed in the reading room indicate that Mohamed Atta or any of the other future hijackers were mentioned in any of those documents."

The statement marks the latest development in several days of public skirmishing between the commission and Rep. Curt Weldon (R-Pa.), who accused the panel of ignoring allegations that Atta and other hijackers had been identified by Pentagon analysts before the Sept. 11 attacks but that the information had not been shared with other agencies.

100 miles an hour in the rain in Toyota Corolla, and Bin Laden and the anthrax, and Steven Hatfill and spending a quarter of a million to drain a pond for no reason and meddling in the Schiavo case, and DeLay and the stolen elections and gas prices and tax breaks for the rich and oh fuck it I'm going to take my family to Disneyworld.

3. Hannity was going ballistic on this yesterday
He was making absurd illogical conclusions, something like this:
1. Mohammed Atta was identified long before 9/11 (unproven)
2. Able Danger psotively idetified him as a threat (unproven)
3. Officers tried to warn the CIA, but were blocked by the so-called "wall" between civilian agencies set up by Jamie Gorelick

4. Conclusion? Clinton's Fault(tm)

The insane lunatic base of the republican party will be blathering on about this for years regardless of facts. It is their modus operandi.

5. Nail, Meet Hammer
Your sure got that right. I posted a couple of days ago that Dems better be ready to spit fire, over the "Able Danger, It's Clinton's Fault" right wing talking point came out.

Sure enough, Rush spent 2.5 of his 3 hours yesterday spinning it.

They got what they wanted, but maybe they didn't too.

During the Pigboy's Show, he was complaining that the bogus story wasn't being covered by the MSM. To him that was an indication that that "darned Liberal Media" was again "covering for Clinton".

but then I had a "lovely" thought.

I thought; "maybe Pigboy; the fact that the media didn't felate this story for you is an indication of your weakening influence on our national debate. Perhaps the MSM is realizing that you are a 'pill-popping, fat liar', and have begun to ignore you".

His 15 minutes of fame are close to being over. Hope he enjoys broadcasting the "Rush Limbaugh Show" from a maximum security prison on prison radio.

My dream is that 5 years from now, we'll see Rush reduced to appearing on VH1's "Fat Celebrity's Weight Loss Challenge"

6. A nostalgic look back
A "Where are they now?" segment in the Summer of 2010. A look back at the leaders of the conservative movement during the bush years, from broadcasters to lobbyists to legislatures, newspaper reporters and government contractors. An expanded two hour edition required for the large number of former powerbrokers; thankfully we have them all in one spot - Leavenworth, Kansas. We welcome our guest commentator, out of retirement, Dan Rather. Joining Dan will be former U. S. Ambassador Joe Wilson, his wife Valerie to discuss their life and how it changed thanks to those in tonight's spotlight.
