Citing some mysterious disease/condition, Bush will soon retire
from office....to spend more quality time with family/golfing friends/.

He has become the LOOSE CANNON and must be quietly removed/replaced.

Bush has become THE LIABILITY.

They will make him a Hero, suggest his face on Rushmore, etc and have him leave gracefully.....

Any bets??

Come, we go the ODDS.

Laura to be a titular head... but that idea is waning with me just as her appearances are waning. But, perhaps, they are grooming her. She may be in an accelerated course to learn as much as Bill Clinton knows.

10. Its been mentioned in a few places here on the DU..I wouldn't be suprised
Bush seems so disconnected when answering questions from reporters, always stumbling, searching for the right words, surreal.

He is like a dog who remembers to bring back the stick for a pat on the head. His handlers now have a hard time teaching him new tricks not to mention getting him to remember the old ones.

past shows that he is a quitter when the going gets tough, and it's obvious that he's had it with this job. He said he was going to run it like a business, and he's kept his word on that. He runs a business in the ground and then bails, taking all the perks with him.

13. Depends on Fitz
I have a fucked up feeling they might just jump ship.... There isn't a dictator these guys aren't holding hands with. The Yukos oil company being bought for 9b but know one knows who wrote the check; it's strange that amount is missing from the Iraq reconstruction budget. Murdoch builds home in China, I thought he just became an American... I never read anything about anyone building homes in Russia under communist rule.

They steal two elections, commit multiple acts of treason, and start wars with their old friends who their new friends don't like. They have crippled this country in such a short time; and right in front of our faces. The anti-Bill of Rights act (patriot act) would be considered the least American piece of legislation, and they have cut the hands off anyone who opposes them on anything.

The evidence on 9/11 is so in your face when you look at it, you know they did it. America has been taken over by people who think it belongs to them.

17. Won't happen.
Bush and his army of cronies refuse to come to grips with reality in any fashion. They refuse to see the need for Bush to explain himself to the American public. They see the public the same way the French monarchy did before the revolution. He can say or do anything, and it doesnt really matter to them. The chances of getting stern action against the president in the congress are about nil so long as his party controls it all, and they know it. Dementia or not, they wouldnt do it. They didnt make reagan retire, even though he never had a clue where he was the last 4-6 years of his presidency. I think that shows all the precedence I need to prove the point.

He would have to become a threat to their hold on the WH in '08 so bad that Dick Cheney would need the running start of a year or two of incumbency to win.

With his poll numbers falling like a rock, and people now mentioning Cheney as a possible candidate in '08 all of a sudden, this is becoming a real possibility.

How they ease him out, if it should happen, will be interesting to watch.

Consider this: Cheney just spent a couple of weeks having a complete medical "overhaul". His pacemaker was recharged or replaced (depending on who you read), and he was checked out intensely from head to toe. Why this year? I understood that wasn't due to happen for a couple of years yet. Could they be making sure he's ready to assume power if Bush needs replacing?

Any President who runs a country that can do without him on the job 20% of the time, isn't really running the country at all.

Any President who is told his country is under attack and sits right where he is for 7 minutes is waiting for the real person in charge to tell him what to do.

Any President that is sent up in the air like a human skeet, repeatedly, even as this attack is underway while his VP is hustled to an undisclosed underground bunker is expendable.

If he were smarter he would have seen this coming a long time ago. But, I could be wrong. This is just a hunch on my part.

20. Well, his Skull and Bones name IS "Temporary", but I don't buy it
It certainly would be a sneaky way for Cheney to become President. If so, they'd wait until just after the cutoff point of the 22nd Amendment, so he could have the maximum time on the job.

I still don't buy it, though, although I'm far from certain. We know that he's quite a bit of a puppet, but how much is another matter. Were he to be offed, it would allow the reactionaries to pin it on the left and purge us straight into fascistic theocracy, but that's a bit out there. Still, these guys play for keeps.

The big question on that last paranoid speculation is this: how many people are truly loyal to Junior himself? I think it's more than one might imagine, and for Cheney and his corporate brown shirts to pull off something like that would result in serious infighting. Still, these nuts are remarkable in their ability to pull together and goose step merrily along.

Remember, too, that many top Republicans--especially legislators--hate Dick Cheney's guts. He had all the Vice-Presidential contenders tell him what the skeletons were in their closets, and then pronounced himself as the only one clean enough for the job. That leaves him with blackmail information, and it makes for an awful lot of pissed-off guys with clout.

He'll probably stay, unless some serious shit hits the fan, in which case he may very well be expendable. I doubt that he'll step down, though; it wouldn't be manly. He's a mean, petty little nobody who needs to dominate; it's not in his makeup to back down.

Bush has been a puppet from day 1.

He has never been in charge of anything, just a shallow shell of a puppet to be a frontman for the real criminals who run things behind him.

This idiot couldn't run a Bowling Alley from 1 till 7 in the morning.

57. (feeling strangely giddy) I think you're right, Opi.
There's a thread above this one that tells of Bush commenting, "I have to go on with my life". Just unbelievable.

And recall his little impromptu speech when he crawled out on Friday to make some kind of statement about Cindy. He was stammering, stuttering, his command of the English language is frightening.

And now this latest thing - must go on with my life. Yeah, you do that Bush.

You know what I think it is? It's the white crosses that finally pushed him over the edge. For the first time in his miserable life, his actions are REALLY, REALLY close. Closing in, closing in. It's enough to make a person paranoid.

He tries to fall asleep at night. He knows that just a mile down the road, people are sharing camaraderie and mourning - it's eating him up inside. He can't sleep. Paces the floor. Wishes he could bomb Crawford once and for all. Shit. What to do now?

Takes more medication. Stutters and slurs even more than usual. I think they're getting to him.

Edited on Sat Aug-13-05 09:11 PM by marions ghost
based on no facts and nothing more substantial. I admit, this may be an optimistic view given the dirty tricks potential of these mobsters.

2nd Term: Over time, the Rethug puppeteers will look worse and worse (how bad is anybody's guess). Darth Cheney won't be "clean" enough to run for anything. He'll drag off to sit in his charnel house counting his skulls, drawing heavily on his Swiss bank accounts for the best medical care billions can provide. Rove will be helping Bernie Ebbers write his new resume. Some of the other Neo-cons will be sucked into the chute along with them, and the cronies left standing will suddenly develop serious allergic reactions to those who got "outed." The Good Times are gone. They all will be forced to spend a lot of time dealing with Messopotamia, trying to "fix" what got broke. Chimpy will be propped up no matter what his mental state, so the country can limp along into the next election with some semblance of continuity. A huge and hideous bronze of the Chimp will be placed in the town square in Crawford with a plaque that says President GWB, Leader, Soldier, Texan. It will be made to be bullet proof and indestructable, unlike Saddam's.

America will slowly begin to emerge from these Dark Ages...but the going will be rough. The devastating economic realities of the hijacking of the government will sink in. And I hope (?!) the *new* progressives will be on the scene by then, to help with the reconstruction of Democracy and the job of forging a new relationship with the rest of the world.

This is only ONE alternative to the Doomsday Scenario. I'm not making any bets yet, opi...but ask this Q again by December... :)

64. Interesting prediction...
Weren't there astrologers who were predicting before the election that he would win and then he'd get impeached? Does anybody have any links to these predictions?

69. Yeah, right after he admits all his mistakes and starts apologizin'.
...And hell freezes over, the Cubs win the World Series, The Pope starts talking sense on birth control, Christian Fundamentalists learn to mind their own fucking business, People stop killing each other in the name of "God", SUV drivers suddenly cease bitching with astonishment at how much it costs to fill up the Land Destroyer this week, The Cable News Channels start reporting actual news instead of brain-numbing fluff about runaway brides, The DEA stops harassing pot smoking cancer grannies and starts worrying about real crime, Whatever constitutes popular music stops sucking complete ass, Hollywood stops mining the worst of the worst of the most idiotic pieces of 20 year old pop culture detritus for corporate boardroom-approved screenplays and starts letting independent artists with vision make intelligent, thought provoking films, and folks backing out of parking spaces stop taking twice as long when they know that you're waiting for the space.
