Rough run-down of Dean on CBS with Scheiffer this morning |
|
Some key components of answers, (some paraphrased) as I watched...
We need to have a plan to leave Iraq- Bush has no plan. (went right into the Post article about lowered goals).....
As it stands, women will be worse off than they were under Saddam....
Will war be issue in 08? Dems won’t use soldiers’ deaths as political issue....
On Sheehan: Bush asked her to give up her son- Sure he should meet with her!...
...People (soldiers) still don’t have adequate equipment
They (bush admin) don’t know how to fight a war because none of them ever have.
Sheiffer: why don’t YOU have a plan? That’s the president’s job- he has ALL the information available to him
On Roberts- I don’t have a vote but I have concerns about a number of issues that are important to the people. (Went into privacy issue/Griswald)
What do activists expect of dems- Activists expect dems to be tough but fair
Iran: Can’t take options off table this pres’ words can’t be taken seriously at home or abroad. No! I’m not supporting action against Iran- I didn’t say that!
On intelligent design- pres has been anti science for a long time. As a physician, I’m insulted- What companies would invest in US? Science and religion aren’t at odds! Who am I to disagree with Albert Einstein. If you don’t like facts, fight against them. The Church fought against Galileo (this rocked particularly :bounce: )
Asked about Hillary: Won’t get into it. Must be impartial about 08 race
On swing voters- Always do better if you stand up for what you believe in.
On repub in 08- I don’t know- I try not to elect repubs. Some I like as human beings. There will be a titanic clash in 08
On scapegoat ing immigrants- Tancredo endorsed by Mehlman- Arnold welcomes minuteman. Sensenbrenner (didn't catch it) -Bush/repubs sets people against each other...we've seen it before

1. Dean should be talking more about 06 and less about 08. |
|
We have to take the congress back, and then 08 will probably be much easier.

4. My first "08" should have been "06", I think |
|
He was answering the question asked about Hillary, and not focusing on 08 in his remarks.

6. Thank you. As always I enjoyed listening to Dean |
|
always renew my hope that someday we will win.
How refreshing it is to hear someone from our side come out and say what he thinks in simple clear ways. Which, of course, makes it an easy target to attack but, as he said, the voters will trust you if you talk with your convictions.
And this is why people supported Bush, he added. Because he talks from his convictions. I think they are wrong - he added - but he stands by them.
I think that he handled the Roberts nomination well. As a governor, he said, I would not ask about what one thinks about specific issue, but how would one vote had s/he be on the bench at that time. And I think it was clever that he used as an example the Griswald, not Roe. Because, I think, it was Griswald that started the right of privacy, a right - that the Federalists claim - is not mentioned in the Constitution.

7. I watched the whole show! Dean was outstanding! |
|
Here are some of the things he said:
The Presisdent doesn't care about FACTS!
These people don't know what they're doing! They didn't know what they were doing when they went into Iraq, and they don't know what they're doing now!
(When Bob asked him why the Dems don't have a plan for Iraq) You can't expect a Senator or a Congressman to come up with a plan when they don't have all the intel that the Pres has available! The President is the Commander in Chief, and it's HIS job to come up with a plan!
