Iraq Consitution will be better or worse than Hitler's Weimar Republic

The Weimar Republic consitution was said to be a liberal western democracy with minority rights protected - and that was the law under which Hitler was elected.

Today we are told that we fight in Iraq to prevent a dictatorship by one religion with minority/women rights sharply reduced as in Iran.

Yesterday a journalist exposed the fact that "safe and secure" Basra in southern Iraq is being run by the thug mobs of the religious leadership, who kill any who disagree with them - as to disagree is to disrespect the religious leadership.

So, - Monday's Constitution - what will it look like?

When Iraqis speak of federalism they don't mean it in the American sense. Iraqi federalism means that the Shias in the Basra region keep all the oil profits to themselves, while the Kurds in Mosul do the same. The Sunnis, and the Iraqis in the poor provinces, get nothing! No oil money, period!

How long before the poor rise in opposition to their new masters?

I just put the Weimar Republic in order to note that the game does not end with a "good" constitution

as you noted - civil war remains on the table

and my fear - the Basra thugs impose Sharia, as they interpret Sharia, on the whole country - is a very real option.
