I'm a Bulldog Democrat
And I'm done being defined by Republicans, or Democrats who are afraid of Republicans.

There is no such thing as the "center". The center is what you make of it, and will respond according to how well you define and stand up strongly in defense of your core beliefs. The Republicans have artfully taken advantage of simplifying their message to make it more pallatable to "the center". They have mastered manipulating the media to their advantage.

Turnabout.

The "center" needs to understand that everything they were told by the GOP was marketing, and nothing else. What they received from the GOP was pretty much exactly the opposite of what they were promised. And the Democrats in Congress have been slow to resist what so many of us knew was going to be a reign of terror (pun intended).

It's time we stood up and reclaimed our moral authority - not just as a nation, but as Democrats.

Here's what I believe.

1) Democrats need to stand up against the Birth Tax.

Part of respecting life from it's beginning to it's end means ensuring every child born in this country isn't saddled by trillions of dollars in National Debt. And that our elderly can rest assured that the money they put into the system will be there for them when they retire. Republicans love to accuse Democrats of wanting to raise taxes, while at the same time... they run around recklessly spending our nations hard earned capital on poorly planned, poorly accounted and frankly unneccessary wars as well as countless other policies that benefit their benefactors rather than all Americans.

Our budget is out of control, fiscally irresponsible, and a danger to the stability of the global economy. Democrats are the party of fiscal responsibility, and it is our moral obligation to bring this country back to solid financial ground. We will fight Republicans and their reckless spending. We want to cut beurocracy, and create a lean, well connected Government with all the tools it needs to support it's citizens.

2) A true culture of life promotes wellbeing in every aspect. It is our moral obligation to ensure every American has Health Care, and that everything is being done to protect our environment. It's time we stood up to the energy industry and demanded innovation over greed. As Democrats we should lead the fight to silence those who would cast doubt on obvious science. It's time also for big Pharma to take the moral high ground and not overcharge the American people, and to ensure every drug is tested to the most rigorous of standards.

3) Our foreign policy should be based on the virtue of humility. As the only super power left in the world, the last thing we need to do is make demands and threats to allies or even our supposed enemies. War should truly be a last resort, and when used, we must be sure our military is sufficiently trained, armed, and protected to get the job done fast, with minimal casualties, period. And most importantly, we must have the support of the global community that our action is justified, and understood by the global community.

4) We are the party of innovation, and looking to the future. We will invest in technologies that will get us away from fossil fuels. We will work with allies to expand our space program and take advantage of that fellowship to find new ways to provide power to our planet from a wealth of potential sources off of it.

5) We are the party of tolerance. We understand that the beauty of America is that every single one of us has a right to our beliefs. There is no one religion that rules this country. There is no one ideology. The moral authority of America is woven into the countless stories of countless cultures that fought to make this country what it is supposed to be: a beacon of hope for the world.

I will fight anyone who says we can't win be standing up for our moral agenda. Democrats need to talk tough, and call the Republicans out every time they try to gloss over people's eyes with their corporate marketing campaign.

The truth sells better, anyway. The tide must turn, and we must get our message out - we owe it to our forefathers.

1. "The center is what you make of it"
No, it is apparent to YOU, that the center is not what I make of it. To YOU, the center appears to be what YOU (the OP), yourself, makes of it.

8. The "center" is without ideals!
Edited on Sun Aug-14-05 12:58 PM by bvar22
The "center" uses the cloak of "centrism" to avoid taking a STAND on anything. "Centrism" is a wonderfully safe cloak that absolves one of responsibility. "Centrism" has NO issues....Centrists sit in the safe middle, where ever the middle may be.

On Edit: Recommended!

12. Exactly
what I have been saying to the centrists. Centrists are happy with the status quo as long as they and their own are not inconvenienced.

Centrists are a product of mass-marketing into consumerism and personal comfort. Everyone else be damned.

9. Fan-tas-tic Word: BULLDOG DEMOCRAT
Edited on Sun Aug-14-05 01:09 PM by AuntiBush
Really.

We have sat back in shock too damn long! It's time we pull ourselves up from our boot strings and become more like a "bulldog." We know what we're about, and it's so vast it's just too hard to define in a simple sentence "BECAUSE" we represent everyone, as diverse as the Universe is wide. We are the PARTY of TOLERANCE, the most true Christian, Catholic, Jewish, Mormon, "you name-it" party around. We welcome all, regardless of race, creed, affiliation, or whether or not you go to church or not.

Mormons: Would they have come to this country if it were not for the "freedom" to "practice" with "tolerance" for their religion? Not if the NEO-CON REPUBLICANS were running things back then.

We were so "liberal" slavery was allowed till Republican (Liberal Freedom Loving) Lincoln denounced it.

Though this site is religious & politically, it in no way pushes church and state, just the opposite. But it defines to those "Religious Republican Right Groups" why and how they're getting it all wrong -- that it's the DEMOCRATS that are on their side.

No more letting Republican criminals and liars mess with the heads of decent Americans all too willing to give those punks the benefit of the doubt.

Grrr...

I know you can't be expected to catch everything, but this strikes me as an important omission:

6) We'll fight for a decent working environment that protects employees physical and financial health -- both here and abroad. We will use our economic leverage to force trading partners to improve workplace conditions and economic parity, both for humanitarian reasons and so that the American worker can compete on a level playing feild.

18. That is a great platform! And there is simply overwhelming evidence
that the great majority of Americans agree with it.

I've been following issue polls. Did you know that the great majority of Americans disagree with EVERY MAJOR BUSH POLICY, foreign and domestic, way up in the 60% to 70% range? You name it. The Iraq war--58% of the American people opposed it BEFORE the invasion. Feb. '03. 58%! Torture policy--63% of the American people oppose the use of torture UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. May '04. Whether it's Social Security, the deficit or women's rights--huge disapproval of Bush Cartel policy. And that's not even to mention Bush's dismal personal approval ratings over the last year--so low that Zogby said he couldn't win. 40% today, and falling.

What's clear is that the great majority of Americans are progressive in their views, and have been disempowered and DISENFRANCHISED.

So that's one addition I would make to your program--maybe item #1: Get rid of the electronic voting machine companies, owned by major Bush donors and supporters--mainly Diebld and ES&S--who tabulated all our votes using SECRET, PROPRIETARY programming code--code so secret that not even our elected Secretaries of State have the right to review it. It's a no-brainer. And, boy, you would see change fast, if we had transparent, verifiable elections!

You wonder how these Bushite wingers can get away with ignoring the will of the majority on every major issue? They don't have to worry about winning votes. Their power has been guaranteed.

28. There once was a musical troupe
A pickin' singin' folk group
They sang the mountain ballads
And the folk songs of our land

They were long on musical ability
Folks thought they would go far
But political incompatibility led to their downfall

Well, the one on the right was on the left
And the one in the middle was on the right
And the one on the left was in the middle
And the guy in the rear was a Methodist

This musical aggregation toured the entire nation
Singing the traditional ballads
And the folk songs of our land
They performed with great virtuosity
And soon they were the rage
But political animosity prevailed upon the stage

Well, the one on the right was on the left
And the one in the middle was on the right
And the one on the left was in the middle
And the guy in the rear burned his driver's license

Well the curtain had ascended
A hush fell on the crowd
As thousands there were gathered to hear The folk songs of our land
But they took their politics seriously
And that night at the concert hall
As the audience watched deliriously
They had a free-for-all

Well, the one on the right was on the bottom
And the one in the middle was on the top
And the one on the left got a broken arm
And the guy in the rear, said, "Oh dear"

Now this should be a lesson if you plan to start a folk group
Don't go mixin' politics with the folk songs of our land
Just work on harmony and diction
Play your banjo well
And if you have political convictions keep them to yourself

Now, the one on the left works in a bank
And the one in the middle drives a truck
The one on the right's an all-night deejay
And the guy in the rear got drafted
