If there is a Third Way....What are the first Two Ways? |

Personally, I'd like to see a Second Way before the so-called centrists start looking for a Third Way.

Capitalism, socialism...and then the Third way which uses a combination, or whatever is appropriate for the situation.
On edit: Canada and much of Europe uses the Third Way

And I don't see the Republicans jumping up to compromise.

Like teaching a pig to sing - it'll only frustrate you and annoy the pig.
Think I'll continue with the barnyard analogies...

9. The Third Way = Grover Norquist's "bipartisanship" |
|
They give us no quarter. The sole purpose of negotiations is to allow the reich wing to screw us over.

11. They start with an absolute position -- We start with compromise |
|
Edited on Mon Aug-15-05 09:39 AM by Armstead
That's how our side too often loses.
Compromise is where Side 1 presents Plan A, which is their ultimate position....Side 2 presents Plan Z, which is their ultimate position. Then they wrestle it out and come up with a Plan that is somewhere in the middle of the alphabet, like a Plan M.
The problem is today, Side 1 (Right wing corporate GOP) presents Plan A, and the the centrists and DLC types respond with Plan C instead of Plan Z. This ends up with Plan B, while the rest of the alternatives (alphabet) get ignored.
