Not war casualties?
Just got a message from a former colleague. Here's the interesting part of her message:

...
He works for EDS (Electronic Data Systems), the company that keeps track of the info for those killed in Iraq. He said about 40% of the actual deaths occurring are the result of infections following wounds, and they are NOT reported as war casualties because the deaths are the result of infections.

This obviously means that there are almost twice as many deaths occurring as what we are being told.

He is livid about this. Plans to move to France, in fact. Seriously.

...

When will this country hear the real truth?

1. It is difficult for me to know who to believe
I have an obvious bias and distrust anything the administration puts out, and much watch myself carefully to not over or under react due to this. I don't know when we will learn the truth. History books in another 50 yrs might shed some light on now.

3. doubtful, just now various badness about WWII are coming out
And there is plenty more to come as time goes on, and a lot more that will never see the light of day ever, having been shredded and covered up for all time.

The same goes for today. Even if every Republican in the US goes to prison and is interrogated until they die of old age, most of the wrongdoing going on now will never come out.

2. 40% ?
Is he saying that 40% of the fatalities of those hospitialized who later die are from infections?

I've never seen the info from EDS. Aren't the troops treated at different facilities (both overseas and at home)?

I usually get updates from icasualties.com, but I haven't read about the situation he was talking about. Do they have a website that you know of? Thanks!

4. I had previously
read that if a soldier doesn't die on the battlefield, meaning from the time he or she is put on a strecher they are not counted as "combat" deaths.

5. Ok... now I have a question...
If a U.S. soldier is severely injured in Iraq, and eventually winds up in one of the Veteran's hospitals in the United States-- but he or she ultimately doesn't survive..

Is that fatality included in the 1,853 American troops who have died as of today?

Does anyone know?

6. Where have you been?
That question is raised every single time someone reposts the stupid the casualty numbers are wrong myth. Its probably been the subject of a couple hundred threads on this board since the war started and the answer is.

They are all counted no matter where they die. Now occasionally a person here or a person there gets missed due to clerical error especially if their death occurs months later, but that is relatively rare.
