Feingold to stump for fake Dem: why?!?

Sen. Russ Feingold will campaign for Manchester Mayor Bob Baines during his upcoming trip to New Hampshire.

Baines, who is eyeing a run for Congress (against two real Dems already in the race), is a marginal Democrat at best.

He recently shelled out several millions of dollars in city funds to buy a meat packing plant from Tyson Foods. The move helped Tyson close the facility, throw 500 locals out of work (most of them immigrants), and made it easier for the notoriously dirty Tyson to avoid environmental cleanup costs.

Baines also cut community policing positions in low-income neighborhoods, relenting only when residents fed up with drug trafficking began to slam the mayor during public meetings.

Baines is looking at grabbing several low-income housing properties by eminent domain in order to turn them over to a shady developer who wants to build a new strip mall.

And when Baines was principal of Manchester West High School (and running for mayor in his first race), Baines pandered to social conservatives by banning a gay student club from the school. It took a federal lawsuit to get Baines to back down.

Why is Russ Feingold helping a guy like this?

Let his campaign know your opinion:

2. What the fuck are you talking about?
In case you haven't noticed, a lot of prominent Democrats are paying visits to New Hampshire.

We're still a few years away from 2008. Isn't it a little early to start a cheesey Rove-like smear campaign on one of our best Senators?

3. It's not a smear
There are dozens of Democrats running for office in NH municipal elections this fall. Why is Feingold, who has set a high bar for himself, aiding the campaign of one of the bottom-feeders?

He could have done an event for someone like Portsmouth Councilwoman Laura Pantelakos, Manchester School Committeeman Tom Donovan, or Portsmouth Councilman Steve Marchand. They are all bona fide Democrats; Baines isn't.

Further, Baines is toying with a congressional campaign. Funds raised by Feingold would likely find their way into his congressional war chest. This screws over the two real Dems who are running without the support of the sleazy old guard machine.

If it were Evan Bayh or Mark Warner campaigning for a joker like this, you'd be pounding him into the turf. Hold Russ Feingold to the same standard.

4. Actually since I don't know jackshit about local NH politics...
I wouldn't be commenting on Warner or Bayh.

The smear to which I refer is the previous posters implication that Feingold is ignoring his Wisconsin constituents because he made a brief trip to NH. Instead of relying on actual evidence that Feingold is neglecting his duties, it just uses innuendo. That sort of cheap bullshit is straight out of the Karl Rove playbook.

5. Russ reminds me of Hubert Humphrey, Wisconsin's third Senator.
who lived permanently in New Hampshire.

note, Iowa moved their caucus 'up' from July, after that

H. seemed to live in New Hampshire, whatever.
