The Democratic party needs a "dealing with 3rd world dictators" plank |
|
on its platform. We need to propose not neccessarily military solutions to the problem of viscious dictators. The fact that the Democratic leadership was willing to let Saddam be and remain in power gave Bush the opening he needed to attack Iraq.
I'm not trying to defend Bush's actions, but I really think that we could have short-circuted his Mid-East plans if our foreign policy/world wide social justice platform was better defined.
Go ahead flame away....

1. What would we do? Support embargoes and sanctions instead? |
|
We've seen the horror they can inflict in places like Cuba and, of course, Iraq.
So what's our answer to tinpot dictators?

that question.
Maybe we could start by creating a list of dictators who we would wish to be out of power. We could try dictators in absentia (In the ICC of course) and if found guilty we could conduct internationally coordinated Special Ops to take them out. On edit: I know this has its own problems
Basically I just want the American people to know that the Democratic party takes the suffering of people around the world seriously.
I'm just frustrated I guess... I want to do something about the Uzbek situation and others. I just don't know what should be done.
