Roosevelt Social Security Signing Video -- Please help spread
I have heard more than enough of the opinions from the talking heads on today's entertainment news channels. What I have not seen (on TV)is the video below. Roosevelt's words are very considerate, and very revealing...yet this video receives little, if any, air-time.

5. How Social Security First Passed the Supreme Court
They replayed an old interview on NPR with the woman who was one of the creators of Social Security - Frances Perkin, the Secretary of Labor. She was the first female cabinet member. She wanted FDR to push a Social Security system. FDR was concerned that it would be overturned by the conservative Supreme Court.

Then Perkin went to an afternoon tea party held by the wife of a prominent Supreme Court justice. While there, she approached the Supreme Court justice and mentioned to him the concerns about the Court's view of the constitutionality of Social Security. The Justice just said to her "The taxing power, my dear, the taxing power."

So Perkin went back to the White House and structured Social Security based upon the Constitution's authority for the Federal government to establish taxes, and the system was not overturned by the court.
