Another Iraq War© vet running for Congress |
|
Sean Patrick Murphy is running for congress from Bucks County, PA. the 8th CD. It seems he's one of 8 Iraq War© vets running for congress .... and ... ready now? ...... 7 are Dems! http://www.murphy06.com/http://www.jregrassroots.org/forums/lofiversion/index.php/t15770.html

4. I think Murphy did a great job! |
|
Considering Tweet-ball was doing the old 'rapid fire, don't let 'em answer' routine, Murphy held his own and was great - just wat we need!

... "I'm running as a proud Democrat."

Good luck to him! I'm glad more are running! I think Hackett woke some people up too. Him and Cindy Sheehan.

26. Yep...people forget that Tweety worked for Tip O'Neill AND Ed Muskie |
|
...two classic NORTHEASTERN, New England Dems. Tweety went into the Peace Corps because of JFK.
Tweety on occasion demonstrates ADHD symptoms, but he is a bit more complex than some give him credit for....

28. Of course he is, but David is a WH Correspondent, and Tweety is |
|
...a political commentator. One is a real reporter, the other is an opinion-monger.
If they decide to give David a slot, give him that dead meat Tucker hour--move it back to follow Keith Olberman, and bump Rita Cosby up an hour later.

Now that I think about it, Tweety told Cindy Sheehan that she ought to consider running for Congress because she sounded a lot more informed than most of them there!

11. Its pretty clear the Dems are recruiting war vets for campaigns |
|
And that suits me just fine!
I gotta wonder .... if 8 war vets are running, and all but one are Dems .... what's the military's view and politics? Is the 'overwhelmingly Republican' conventional wisdom so much bullshit ...... or is this an anomoly?
I honestly don't know.

17. I've got a Liberal friend |
|
Who's served in the military, and what he tells me is that the military is mostly conservative, but the conservatives in the military when they come back will just go back to school or there jobs or whatever they were doing before they entered the service. On the other hand the Liberals will try to do something about the things they saw, like run for Congress. The Republicans running for office in 20-30 years aren't gonna be the Iraq War veterans, there going to be the college Republicans.
As for Murphy, current officeholder PA-08 got 56% in 04 which means that he can be beaten.

23. the DOD counted the 2004 military votes and hasn't released results... |
|
... so I guess we will never know. The only military votes I saw reported after 11/04 were from New Jersey, where Kerry got 60%+ of the votes.
If anyone has seen other stats on military votes, I'd love to see them.

19. I know there is a contingent of anti-Wes Clark fans here, but |
|
I really believe that such a high-profile general coming out as a Democrat has helped these Iraqi War veterans make the decision to either come out and run as Dems or switch parties given what they know.
I also know that many of these war vets are in contact with Clark, which is what leads me to believe my statement above.

This has to be a prime opportunity for pickup because this guy is an extremely impressive candidate. But his opponent Mike Fitzpatrick is a Freshman congressman, plus this is a district that Kerry won.

Mike Fitzpatrick. He's a first term Repub, who is too conservative for his district. ANd Bucks has gone Democratic in every presidential election since 1992.
