CNN: Crawford troop memorial desecrated (Asshole arrested changing tire!)
http://www.cnn.com/2005/US/08/16/crawford.protest/

CRAWFORD, Texas (CNN) -- The soldier's mother at the center of an antiwar demonstration outside President Bush's ranch in Crawford, Texas said she doesn't want to press charges against a pickup driver who allegedly ran over a makeshift memorial.

Cindy Sheehan said a man earlier in the day drove over 500 crosses and 40 American flags, a memorial for the 1,800 Americans killed in Iraq.

<...>

"One of the crosses lodged in his wheel well and popped his tire," she told reporters on a telephone conference call.

Here's my favorite part:

Ranch neighbor Melissa Harrison said she also was concerned for the safety of her children.

"Who else is going to come up there?" she asked. "We don't know who all is up there protesting, what type of people it's bringing around, and I don't think they know everybody's background. So that's just my concern there."

Uhh...Melissa? What type of people do *you* have down there?

Oh, I think I know...

Some TexASSholes!

And who is going down there despite the violent tendencies of the radical locals?

These dangerous folk.

1. Instant Karma!
And so richly deserved. I wonder if they have any way of knowing exactly whose cross gave him the flat tire?

3. Now you're scarin' me.
I don't think I want to know. No! tell me! No, don't. By the way, the police should press charges against the guy.

8. Doesn't he work at the fillin' station?
I swear I saw him at the fillin' station. Mebbe it was Wal-Mart. Just joking, I have never been in a Wal-Mart and never will.

7. That's great news!
I kind of wish they could have held him in Jail a few days, just until the "news" arrived.

I'm thinking of getting this to replace it:

But, ya know, I'm just glad that CNN didn't gloss over the desecration with that all-important "news" that Cindy's husband filed for divorce.

11. Okay, I know we shouldn't tar all Texans with the same brush
Edited on Tue Aug-16-05 08:46 PM by matt819
After all, I lived there for a couple of years, and so have a pretty good idea of what Texans in my area were all about (mad rightwingerse, as it happens). And my sister-in-law certainly falls into the category of crazed fundie rightwinger. So I have some preconceived and reinforced notions of Texas.

But I do know that Texans here at DU have berated us northerners for broad generalizations about southerners and Texans.

But I have to tell you that I'm biting my tongue on this one. Please reassure me that not everyone in Texas is as stupid as this woman. Please tell me there are good Texans, smart Texans, toughtful Texans, and that not all Texans are gun-toting, cretinous, xenophobes.

12. Isn't Larry Mattlage's distant cousin the one offering land for Cindy?
There's at least one honorable Texan down there in Crawford.
