Calling them on their bluff.
I think that fever pitch things are coming to is a bad, bad thing.

Conforontation will yield nothing, but blood.

And for what?

Our strategy has got to be one that reduces killing, and bloodshed, and violence, and hate.

Support the war?

That sounds like the anthesis of what most people want:

Peace.

They mow down white crosses?

We put up new ones.

They say fags are un-doing families?

We have a few over to Christmas dinner.

They say prayer in school?

We say fine; you'd better get used to the Hindus, and Jews, and Muslims, and Bhuddists, and Shintos, and Seikhs, and Catholics, and everyone else that lives here in America praying in schools, too.

They say that intelligent design and emperical science are co-equal?

Let's put each to the test of the other, and see which prevails.

I say we call them on their bluff.

1. Excellent!
I especially like the one about accepting everyone else who lives here in America praying in schools, too!

2. Good post. Peace
Peace is not as sexy or exciting as getting into a good brawl with the "other side" but it is the way. You may have to redo things several times, like the crosses, and you may get hurt, but I totally agree that "Our strategy has got to be one that reduces killing, and bloodshed, and violence, and hate."

3. I'd say "raise their bluff", which is basically what you're saying
Don't just call them, bump back into their bluff. They're hollow and scared; that's why they hate any difference.

Here's the key to conservatives: they're selfish and ignorant. They want to maintain the advantages they have (or THINK they have) and don't want to have to deal with change.

Since vast sweeps of humanity are scared of change, they band together to try to keep the tide of modernity from eroding their tidy little beaches. Such inflexibility will always lose, since it's just not a sensible model for survival. In the short term, though, these blockheads will glomb up the works and make life unbearable for many.

I say we raise them. Here's an example: the idiotic flag amendment. I say "fine, make it illegal". How illegal do you want it to be? Death? Death for your entire family? What's your plan? Okay, fine; I'm a real fan of Article One, but I still don't want people yelling "fire" in a crowded theatre when there isn't one. Force them to lay out their plan. To sully the constitution with a trivial matter like not allowing the symbol of the country to be attacked is the stuff of small minds, but okay, fine go ahead. What's the remedy?

They never seem to be able to answer this.

Bet into their bluff; re-raise them and force them to deploy. They're not used to that. If they force you on abortion, ask about gang rape. If they force you on gays, ask them if gays are different. If they say "yes", then ask why this misty godthing would create such things. If it screwed up, it's not a very superior being, is it?

The right is fully convinced that we're scared. They really believe that if they mention "class warfare" or the word "liberal" we'll shrink and run. Shove these things down their throats and watch them quake in their jackboots.

4. This has been my strategy for years.
There are a lot of conservatives who won't talk to me, because I'm "confrontational." I'm always polite, but not many folks like their dearly held beliefs challenged in any way. Fine by me - I never enjoy listening to ignorant people spout off.
