SENATOR Joe Scarborough?
http://mediabistro.com/tvnewser/

Senator Joe Scarborough?

"Republican Party leaders are courting Joe Scarborough to replace U.S. Rep. Katherine Harris in the 2006 Senate race against Bill Nelson," the Pensacola News Journal scooped this morning. According to Pensacola businessman Collier Merrill, Scarborough has "met with senior party officials who are encouraging him to challenge" U.S. Rep. Katherine Harris. "His name recognition continues to skyrocket," Merrill said of Scarborough. "I know he's being courted very heavily. I know everywhere he goes, people are encouraging him to run."

Scarborough has been elected to Congress four times beginning in 1994. He has hosted Scarborough Country on MSNBC since 2003, and his contract is up in March. MSNBCers are buzzing about the speculation, which has reached the AP wire. But Scarborough Country tends to be the top-rated show on the network; I predict he'll stay at MSNBC...

1. Wonder how the ghost of Lori Klausitis feels about that?
Not to mention her family?

6. Her ghost is why he won't run.
He managed to get ouyt of Congress and onto TV without a whole lot of people asking questions. If he runs for Senate, those questions will be asked. He doesn't want the heat -- the completely unnecessary heat, because after being painted as a murderer, his campaign will surely fizzle.

No, I think Harris is the one to beat.

21. I predict he will NOT run for this reason alone
Edited on Fri Aug-19-05 05:34 PM by Carla in Ca
He knows it will be front and center on day one. Or maybe it will be his affair which lead to his divorce. Hmmm.

The repugs seen to have had this dilemma before. Why don't they just send in their 'carpetbagger candidate' to fill the void? He can just keep a bag packed by the front door and go wherever he is needed.

2. Didn't one of his interns die under suspicious circumstances?
That would probably be enough for him to stay at NBC (along with the millions in salary)

3. What did I miss?
Why are they trying to oust cruella? I've seen mention on other threads about the repugs stabbing her in the back, but missed the intro.

Can anyone clue me in?

7. Because the only thing Cruella could win in a statewide vote....
is the National Kennel Club's annual dog show..

I agree with the others.. If he runs, it will definitely open up all those suspicions from his past..

they know Harris doesn't stand a chance.

11. cuz she won't win.
she'll steamroll through the primary because she's a hero to the rabid base, but will tank in the general election.

A lot of leftwingers who are cool toward Nelson would be energized beyond belief if she is the GOP candidate, and moderate republicans (the few that still exist) and independents know she's a joke as a congresswoman.

15. Thanks all.
I had no idea what was going on & assumed she was a cinch to get the repug nod, but didn't know she's polling badly behind Nelson. Nothing less than she deserves.

Hey orangepeel68, haven't seen you around in ages. You & absynthe were the first to welcome me to DU.

16. hi, wakemeupwhenitsover!
:hi:

It is nice to see you again! I really hope that she does win the primary, because I think it will help our base turn out, which would help us in the Gov race, too.

9. At least it would get him off TV if he runs...
.. and by the time the campaign gets the story of Lori Klausitis out and in front of the public, he won't be able to get back on (at least not unless it's FAUX).

13. I don't expect he's going to be on MSNBC much longer either.
Every list I've seen shows HIS show at the very bottom of the ratings. I still doubt he will run, but I think he'll at least be off TV soon.

17. His back would never take it
Joe has serious back problems, while it is bad for anyone it will also preclude him from working the Hill anymore. Sitting and blabbing to a camera is a easier way for him to make money.

20. I didn't know what to do about that. Skinner wants only one pic.
I chose Tippy sitting up because that is how I remember him mostly. He loved to sit up and flap his arms and try and get someone to pick him up. It always worked. He would climb into your lap and up the front of you until he could put his arms around you and press his face against your cheek. I love that dog. Thank you for the regards.

22. I listened to a RW call-in show in Pensacola yesterday
The local freeps HATE him.

Several complained that he "cost them (the district) money" because of the special election that had to be held to replace him after his resignation.

One idiot spewed that he "failed to vote for Clinton's impeachment twice" (before voting for it the third time).

None of them liked him.

None

If that's his base - he's got real trouble in his own backyard.

That said, I would be tickled to see Cruella and Joe Silver Hammer duke it out in a repug primary battle.

The circumstances surrounding his divorce (impregnating a young Hill staffer) and Lori K.'s death would no sit well with the family values crowd....

Scarborough Laughs About Dead Staffer

From BartCop Forum:

Conservative MSNBC news host Joe Scarborough was a guest on MSNBC's Imus show last Thursday, May 29.

In complementing Scarborough on his sense of humor, Imus said, "Don't be afraid to be funny, because you are funny. I asked you why you aren't in Congress. You said that you had sex with the intern and then you had to kill her." To which Scarborough laughed, "Yeah, ha, ha ha, well, what are you gonna do?"
